How excited do you get about racing ??

Fox body Ford I don't mind breaking that... parts still around and cheap I suppose Mopar used to be that way in the late 80s early 90s :)The dart ios a resto street car with 14inch ralley wheels isn't going to be a racer. I actually put the car back to stock appearing, it had race goodies when I bought it, headers, scattershield ,high comp TRW internals etc. Old school 80s stuff. I had heard the TRW pistons called "heavy" but I guess they were what was popular back then. I put flattop Keith Blacks in it for street gas etc. Pound for pound though My Dart has my Fox beat. I can tell the difference between them sitting at idle if that makes sense.

Havent raced in years. When I went to the track, I would start shaking from a massive rush of adenalin. I was more excited than I had ever been. I learned to put Vodka in the wiper water reservoir, ran a hose under the dash, because I needed it to calm down on the way home. One night I forgot to remove the shoe polish showing my et.( /6. ET 17.60,
Melling cam, Clifford headers, Carter BBD adapted to the manifold), LOL) The next morning my dad jumped on top me while I was in bed and beat my ***. He took my Duster keys for a month. It was worth it !!
Thought I was the only one who got that RUSH, took my breath away! Every time I hear the cars leaving the line.
 
Growing up my dad would take me to see my uncle run a Funny Car in the 60s. Then early 70s Pro Stock . He later ran modified with a Sox and Martin built Hemi Challenger. When I turned 15 I thought I knew about racing so I took my Honda to the track. I won the first race I ever entered.
 
Back in the 80's and 90's when I raced my Charger, I'd get so amped up when our class was called that I literally would almost get so tired I could hardly stand. But once I strapped in with the Helmut, it was all business.
Fast forward 30 years and I built the avatar car...now there's a lot more to think about. Much faster car. Yes, still get giddy but just focused on proper steps to make a pass. Jacket on, 5-pt belts all attached/snug...oh wait, now I can't reach the door to shut it! Get the door, reattach belts, turn on all the proper switches in sequence, then start the engine and put on helmut. Hurry up ..let's go!! Do the burnout, set the digital shift light to record the run, stage the car, and wait for the last yellow to come on.
It's a rush!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
 
My conclusion after 50 years is that the more mentally challenged the driver is the more wins he or she gets. There’s less things to think about, just focused on cutting the light. I’ve been associated with three track champions and maybe five more really good drivers, none could build or tune a car. I wish there was a brain switch to turn off. lol
 
Not very much.I like to go down to the drags about twice a summer. Once for a Nostalgia style meet and the other for the points circuit to watch some of the big boys.For my own car 1/4 mile is not even a consideration. It just has to pull hard on the street and never much past legal highway speeds.

I used to have a 1969 440 6 pack Road Runner with a Bob Lambeck prepared C/S eliminator engine, it used to run on the index 11:40 at 116 in the 1/4 mile I bought the whole car from GTX John. I used to get very excited on the starting line racing adrenaline all day long, I understand. Now I have a 1974 Plymouth 360 Duster that runs mid to high 12s in the quarter mile and to tell you the truth I still get excited at the age of 62.

I started drag racing in 1958. Raced untill 1985. In 2000 I heard about the slant six series, and joined that in 2001. Can't get to the track as much as I would like, but go whenever I'm able. Over the years I have driven Drags, dirt oval, paved oval, road course. Always with low dollar cars.

I recognize that track, and that car! PG, didn't know that was you! Next time I see it, I'll introduce myself. I've seen your car at Irwindale multiple times!

Cool, that was me. The next time you see my car come over and let’s talk. I have not seen another emerald green 1974 duster up there, that kind of makes me hard to miss. Did you have a car there racing?

Mine is in Arizona at the moment. Me too. I'll pm you when I get it to Irwindale next time. Look for an ugly old blue 62 savoy.
 
I build, tune and race mine when time allows. Nothing better than driving/racing.

Racing has taken a back burner for me. Entered two multi day races this spring so my level of laziness escalated to a level where I skipped on some Phoenix races as I didn’t want to hurt anything and end up thrashing to make it. Been busy playing in the desert and just haven’t felt like spending the money on fuel, travel, motels etc…. Our next projected race is the mopar event in Sacramento late September.

Guess he didn't mind the smell of vodka, but racing was taboo.

I guess a perfect example of me and racing occurred this weekend. I busted my butt getting the grass cut and the tires prepped, balanced, and installed on my duster. I was loading up at 8:30 last night on a hot humid day for a day of racing in 90 degree weather today. Well after loading I went to back my trailer down the hill and the batteries in my truck were dead. I threw the charger on and went in the house to shower and eat. When I went back outside it wasn’t charging so I put the charger on the other battery and went to bed. I got up at 7am and the other battery wasn’t taking a charge So I disconnected them, cleaned them and tried charging them again. 2 amp, 10 amp, 40 amp, start circuit and nothing worked. There was a time when I would have pulled both batteries, drove the 20 miles to get new batteries and install them but not today. It was a humid 80 degrees already so I was done for the weekend. Maybe next weekend.

It wasn’t meant to be. This is the way it has evolved for me, if there’s obstacles every way I turn, I heed the message something is trying to tell me. I go the least resistance.
