How many CURRENT owners of real '74 360 Duster 4 speed cars on here?

-
This is the car that inspired me to look for and purchase my current 1974 360 TX9 4 speed car. That is my first car 74 318 console auto in black also

Looks great! What paint did you use for the orange air cleaner assembly?

Yes and what did you use for the engine. I got the correct blue from mopar but the paint must be very old because it is not sticking very well.

Cool ride and paperwork!!!!
I have a ton of paperwork for this car. Got the shipping paperwork to Istanbul and a letter from the original owner. I tracked the guy down and have exchanged multiple emails. He sent me some old pictures of the car and gave a bunch of details from when he bought it new to when he sold it.

I actually found the passenger side 360 fender emblem hidden in the trunk. According to the original owner there was only a driver side 360 emblem. I wonder if it wouldn't stick at the factory or fell off at the dealership and someone just tossed it back there?

I would think there were on both sides. I seen them on Dart Sports way back but never seen a Duster 360 till in the 80s. They had them on both sides. I have a 74 and a 75 Duster 360s and there on both sides. Kim

Very Cool!

23 cars!

Does anyone know how many of these cars came with the fold down rear seat and sun roof?

So I researched power numbers, and I would say the 360 Duster in 1974 was the most powerful Duster ever! I compared gross and net horsepower numbers on various engines. Example: I found the change on a 318 from 1971 to 1973 was 80 hp (230 to 150.) The engines had identical compression and 2 bbl carbs. So if we add 80hp to the 360 Dusters net rating of 245 hp, we get 325 hp- making it even more powerful than the famous 340 (275 hp gross.) And everyone knows the 360 has more torque.

That’s. Or how it works in the real world. They use the same formula for different size engines but the percentage loss is smaller with a bigger engine. The 340 from 71 to 72 only lost 35 hp while also losing 2 points of compression. With the 318 losing 80 hp with virtually no compression loss u can see why u can’t add 80 hp to the low compression 360. I hope I explained this right. Kim

Ok Kim so let's cut the 80 hp in half and make it 40. The 360 (285 hp) would still be more powerful than the top 340 option. Let's look at the torque #'s 320ft for the 74 360hp and 340ft for the 340. But the 340 was rated using gross figures. That would put the 360 torque up quite a bit over the 340.

My 2 friends raced in 1975. 74 dart sport 360 auto. 3.21 gears. 72 duster 340 auto. 3.23 gears. Both had 245/14 rear tires. Both bare bones cars. The 72 kicked the 74 3 times in a row. That’s what I know. Kim

My 74 dart sport 360 automatic car has an LM29 serial number. Original paint stripes #s matching 52,601 on clock. Factory interior, the spare has never been on the car only took it out to clean
Have 3 build sheets. Like to know where I can find info on production #s according to options if there is any.

Far as I know, the only break down according to options is motor and trans. Nothing that then breaks it down further based on color/seats/etc. Galen's White Book that I have says they made 1162 Dart Sport 360 auto cars, don't know that there is more info than that.

Edit - Nice car, BTW

Best suggest I have is to start a new thread asking the question. This thread is about 4 speed Dusters and isn't probably going to get you the exposure (and potential answers) that a thread of your own might.

That’s for the info. Have to do more digging because the info I have states that there was 3900 and change dart sport 360’s made in 74 that would make the automatic more rare the the 4 box. That’s my Dart book every scrap of paper from the beginning of time is in that book.

I don't think your number is correct. 3900 is not right -Dion gave you the number (1162) a couple posts ago. They built more Dusters than Dart Sports, and way fewer 4-speeds
