I pumped gas and "provided service" at an Atlantic "service station" while in high school, from 1966 to 1968. 24.9 for regular and 32.9 for high test. I could cruise all weekend in my 66 cuda 4 spd/273 for 5 bucks.
I remember my dad often referring to the Friday gas wars in Elmira, NY which is where he worked. Often sold for ten gallons for $1.00, yes, you read that right. That would have been early or mid 1950's I think.
