Custom Powder Coating

New Powder **** today!

This big spread was a good deal of work all the way from metal condition to powder.

I call it "Petty Blue on steroids," this time contrasted by a gloss white and a flat black to match his intake. An honored Air Force vet, he's taking advantage of my Military Discount for the second time.

The blue is intense with fine flake. It loves lighting and has stunning transitions.

I'm adding a shot of the new Mopar M air cleaner hold down nut's packaging with the part number too. You know you want one! (Jeg's and Summit have them but my dealership contact did not.) They're nice and heavy, and even have a copper coat underneath the chrome.

Those look awesome Leanna!!

I tried to find a gallery to post these pictures in. With no success, I figured this would be a good place and the thread deserves a bump.

Finally had a little sunshine to take a few pictures. Unfortunately, the pictures still don't do @CudaChick1968 work the justice it deserves. Aside from the final product, such a pleasure to work with. Thank you Leanna!

Oh wow Sean, thank you for the terrific follow up!!
Knowing you're happy is all that truly matters in the end. I look forward to working with you again in the future!

Just a quick bump to thank FABO!

This little cast iron doorstop named Pupp-O had a "ruff" life! He belonged to my customer's grandparents.

This LD340 had a rough life too.

After getting the brass fitting removed, there was only 1 full thread left on the opening along with severe galling.

20220510_171810.jpg

I suspect the first owner forgot never-seize ... so new owner turned it upside down and put too much force on the pipe wrench. "&*%@!!!! Let's gob some blue **** on there and stick this NPT brass fitting my dad had in there." Ugh.

It's all reconstructed now with as close as I could get to looking factory. A new black 3/4" x 4" pipe nipple cut to fit and notched, some (rarely used) heavy duty metal compound and a black, silver and clear powder job turned into this. And no leaks!

Like your idea of the 3/4" black pipe nipple turned, cut, and notched to look factory. Thanks

You can buy them, but sometimes things are more fun to make if you can. And sometimes you just can't get one.

New Powder **** for one of my first and best customers from FABO back in 2008!

It was definitely a masking challenge with the layout being different on both sides, but knowing Eric is happy is the best reward I could ask for. I hope to get a video when it's installed and running! (He also has a set of matching Mopar Performance valve covers and a custom B5/silver MSD box to go along with it.)

It was a fun and interesting one for sure, my first ever custom fan. If I remember right he wanted it to resemble a Corsair airplane. Here's his idea on arrival.

Thanks for looking! I wouldn't be here without YOU!

What would a ballpark be for either of these treatments on a set of big block valve covers? They are in good shape, just need to be cleaned up.

The FAQ on my website is the best place to start (scroll down a bit past the Contact stuff). It tells you everything I need to know to give you a proper estimate rather than just a guess.
There's a whole segment devoted to MP valve covers. (I do know the bodywork has to be on point to pull that wet black off to reflect like those do, but it's a crucial part of my job on everything.) Please don't feel obligated to choose a previous color scheme either -- gun cleaning time costs the same regardless of the color I'm getting ready to put in it.
Thanks for asking, and for looking!!

Today's Powder **** belongs to FABO Member @Stephen Hotz!
He entrusted me with a very decent pair of small block Weiand valve covers with NO parameters at all -- "Do whatever you want!" -- so I asked a few questions about the car and came up with something distinctive we can both be proud of.
From arrival to Powder ****: One was bare and fairly oxidized but metal damage was very minimal.

Here they are now ... his Corporate Blue is now on steroids, the metallic silver will tie in with his intake, and the bodies were finished in the wrinkle black he mentioned liking.

Stephen, thank you for the opportunity to work with you again!! I'm delighted that you're happy with the results! :D I truly appreciate your business!

Get those parts in line for the 2023 show / shine / race season! My backlog is clearing and I have a few spots available.

Thanks for your support FABO! I wouldn't be here without YOU!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Until further notice, please choose the US Postal Service or UPS for all shipments you send to my shop rather than enlisting FedEx.

Something very strange is afoot at the Circle K and I need to get it resolved. (All I will say is that the matter is so serious that the authorities are now involved and are handling it.)

Thank you.

Lots of stuff has been finished since my last update, even a couple foreign V-12 jobs and some centerfire bullet casings the guy makes into valve stem covers.

This setup is headed to Australia. Bought on ebay as "new, never installed" and shipped direct, an unpleasant surprise was discovered. The pcv grommet in the pictures covered up a serious hack job.

Holes went all the way through in three places! Of course now it's all repaired and won't leak, and barely shows.

Magnesium is lightweight and durable but, except for old Hallibrands, was never meant to be pretty.

Between me and you, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I never saw another pair of Mercedes Benz valve covers in my entire life.

Thess were finished up Wednesday night. Ford castings are kind of fun, like a big coloring book. These needed a little more bodywork than usual but not nearly as much as the Mopar Performance do.

Dang! How do you fix the little cracks and casting boogers in Magnesium before you coat them? I can see why you wouldn't want to do any more. Imagine if that set was a REALLY good pair!!
