Thanks, I'm entirely thinking of the VIN on the fender tag. I didn't know that they made 340' anywhere but Hamtramck.

It wasn't. VIN's started getting stamped on blocks in 68. Like in post #12 above. The F in the vin was Newark assembly plant. For the car not the engine. LA small blocks were made at the Mound Road plant in Detroit as well as in Canada and Mexico.
