Help please - new? style 90 degree oil filter adapter

I' been digging through my parts to find a 90 degree oil filter adapter. I found the type that I'm used to - cast iron, but also ran across two like this:

They are aluminum and have a shorter bolt and those two 'prongs' sticking out of the side. What are these for (what did they come on)? Do they interchange with the old style? Any draw backs to using them? What are the prongs for and do they interfere with use on LA motors?
 
That one in the picture won't work on a small block... the filter will interfere with the block or trans depending on what angle you install it at... The rotation is wrong....
 
I'm still trying to figure out what the adapter in the first post goes to. It's obviously a Mopar piece, it bolts right to any small block without interference, using the same gasket set, but it sits a little closer to the block and the filter is angled out just a few few degrees farther out than 90 degrees. Somebody must know what they were made for...
 
Thet made 4 kinds 3 for cars and one for boats.
