I live in northern IL. Near the Wisconsin border. Anyone here use and have had great experience with a quality machine shop? 360 non roller. Looking for all the basics. To start the build the right way.

Karl @krazykuda is in that neck of the woods. Maybe he'll chime in.

I use a guy in Dearborn, MI for my machine work... He does good work and is worth the drive because I trust him... Especially with heads... :D

Not many machine shops around here that I trust... :realcrazy:

If you want his number, PM me and I can pass it along.... He's retired and works out of his home garage...

Lots of quality shops if your willing to ship on a pallet...

Kilpatrick did a good job rebuilding the 727 in my 73 Cuda and the price was reasonable. I've heard many more good reports on him than bad. Just make sure that all your expectations are clear and agreed upon, as you should with any shop. They also sponsor a Mopar oriented swap meet twice a year and I think the shop manager runs the local Mopar club.

Here is a link to the thread I started a couple years back that has some other suggestions in the SE WI and Northern Illinois area. Southern Michigan isn't that far away and has some good shops too.
SE Wisconsin Engine Builder?

Jim has a crazy fast Polara he races out at Great Lakes Dragaway, running high 6's. ANother shop to check out is Don's Auto in Kenosha, he builds some stout Mopar engines.

Last time I was down there 18-24 months ago, Jim was still working on his 70 Cuda that was getting a twin turbo gen 3 Hemi. Looked like it would be pretty sick, but had a long way to go at that time.

I had a few custom jobs get on the pages of Byron and world of wheels. This one was a heck of a great time doing it.
