Repair or replace this fender (AMD)

-
"Rosette fasteners" are the rivets used to attach the vin tag to the dash. Screws attached the fender tag.
It would depend on the year. '66-7 also used rosettes attaching the VIN to the driver's side door pillar. '65 and earlier, they were psuedo spot welded on the door pillar. I've also run across a few oddball '68 models with riveted-on fender tags that look to be factory. They have completely different code numbers on them too. The rivets were not rosette's however, just a regular type rivet.

The fender can be fixed but, unless your taking it to somebody who cares or not is going to depend on the type of repair you get. If your going to your local jokal body shop they sure as hell aren't drilling out spot welds and separating the headlight section from the fender then welding it back it. A restoration shop or, a guy who does his own work would care enough to do that kind of work to make the repair. Your local jokal body shop will pull it the best they can and throw filler at it and, paint to match...ish.

It will probably take as much time to get the new fender straight as it would to repair the original. I just spend about 15 hours making my AMD cuda firewall correct. AMD is not as perfect as everyone thinks. Yeah they are better than most repop metal but they make some junk too.

And those of us the crowd now want to know what's wrong with their firewalls....

In my experience with the 68 AMD front fenders, by all means, stay with Ma Mopar. Mine have been dissected on both sides to get the body lines right and the door gap on the driver's side is a joke.

Be sure to provide your new headlight bezel to the body shop so the fender is repaired to match cleany...

FWIW, I had to repair my inner fenders. Sometime in it's history, the heads needed to be removed, probably for a valve job. Rather than remove the studs with the correct tool, they just slammed the inner fenders until they had enough clearance to remove the exhaust manifolds. I bought a stud welding kit from our favorite Chinesium tool store(HF), and saved many hours of labor with the stud welder and slide hammer. I was surprised at the result. No holes like the old fashioned way. Easy to remove the studs, and sand, prime, and paint. I'll provide photos if any members request them.

Just thought I’d catch up on this and share the before/after results.

I had a dent in a similar location, body shop asked for a headlight bezel to be able to contour the metal properly.

Looks like your 90% there.

Yeah, not final. This is my metalwork guy. The body shop will finish it out.
Looking good. Did he have to separate the headlight bucket assembly to access the back side or was he able to pull it all from the outside?

Looks great. Nice that another original fender could be saved.
