Iron 273 4 barrel manifolds

-
I like that intake and run them on the street. No track time and no quarter mile time. We used to have a quarter mile marked off so we would know if changes helped or hurt. A friend dynoed a 2 barrel pistoned 273 with an Isky E-4 cam and the rest of the Commando good parts including that intake. It made 265 hp. I also run Jet Hot coated factory exhaust manifolds with the Commando 2 1/4 single straight thru exhaust.

Given the 2 barrel pistons were 8.8 to 1 deck height changes as well as how much is taken off the head and head gasket thickness that motor could easily be in the 9 to 9.5 to 1 CR range. Was the dyno pull pull done with 920 heads?

Another source is the Class Racer forum under the sub form Stock/Super Stock. Stock and Superstock racers have been allowed to run the D4B and the DP4B for several years now. NHRA allowed the change because the intake was offered over the counter I would imagine they would be willing to turn loose the cast iron intakeS they own.

DP4B is a B block manifold (361,383,400)

I’m pretty sure the Ede intake on a SB Mopar in NHRA stock is no longer allowed.

Last timel checked stockers running NHRA legal 4 barrel cars were allowed to run that manifold

No, still allowed along with 302 and 308 casting heads. Bill Schmacker of NW stock eliminator fame argued the case to NHRA and got the rule change. His daughter runs a 65 Valiant in stock and shes pretty competitive.

I don’t see the LD4B listed as a legal part for a 65,66,67,68 273 in the NHRA engine blueprint specs page.

What I do see are intake numbers:
2465726, 2535583, 2536563, 2536771

3 of those are the factory intake casting numbers. 2465726 is the '65 273 4bbl, 2536563 is the '66-7 273 non-C.A.P. 4bbl intake, and 2536771 is the '66-7 273 4bbl with C.A.P. intake. The 2535583 you show I believe is just a poorly read or poorly cast 2536563 intake.

If you look on the NHRA Class Index page, it allows the 273 to use Edelbrock heads with a bump up of 5 to 10 HP. I didn't see anything on the LD4B in either the engine blueprint or index sections. The Chrysler part number for it is 2836139. I believe they came with and without the p/n cast into it.

The D/Dart can only run in Superstock now because only 50 cars were produced. Back then it was a D/S car.

I don’t doubt that......nonetheless the number is listed that way in the blueprint specs.
