Raised Port Head Question

-
Unfortunately I can return anything, so I’m going to have to figure it out one way or another.

It does seem like they are too tall. I’ll get some measurements off the valves tonight and include another pic with a straight edge across.

Should have gone with Promaxx like I did on the Duster.

Edelbrock shows the lengths for the Victors as:
5.350” intake
5.375” exhaust

So, they “should” be close to that.

Years ago there was a retailer selling those heads with valves that were something like .250” longer than that.
They were the wrong diameter too.

The story on that if you’re bored......
Some Pro Comp "Victor" stuff.....

Got off work a little early so started to take some measurements, but while disassembling, I noticed this:
Where the rockers are relieved for the retainer, the intake and exhaust are significantly different, and pretty significant on height. (See end picture) I reassembled with some sharpie and that leading edge is where I’m getting contact. Now back to the garage

So now the question is… mill it off? Will bringing that ledge up (away from the block) not back (toward the shaft) weaken them? Put a stress riser there?

Well...... if you end up without a radius there...... yes, it will create a stress riser.

For a mild cam situation...... will it matter?

I’d rather try and do it in a way that doesn’t end up without a radius there.

For a no machining option......
A smaller diameter spring might work, or a spring that’ll work at a shorter installed height, and then some -.050” locks to move the retainer away from the valve tip.

Yes sir, with a lot of help from FABO and friends. Clearanced the rockers with a ball end mill to keep the radius. Clearances for a 3/8 pushrod with sanding drums, Measured for new pushrods (after making a solid lifter with washers) and checked PV clearance with that same solid lifter. Everything is spinning over by hand now and looks good. Finally torqued everything down with cometic gaskets. Engine is back in the car, working on wiring it all and hopefully fire it in the next month or two.

Appreciate everyone’s feedback. Now if only the rest of the car looked like the engine bay! Fender body work is coming along, Dash is back in and done, added some console mounts (quicksilver going in the console). Column is all redone and teaching myself some welding while I close all the GT trim holes.
