Scream'n 318 ?

-
I'd be happy with having one car, most on here have several.
That would be on you, my friend ! I'm not nearly as fussy as you. My classics will have dings, maybe some rust, none have new paint..... but I'm having a blast and will continue till I am not able.

The only rule of the class is that the block says 318 on the side… we allow 273s and 3.9s to play as well tho!
NOS and Boosted engines get their own class ?? Strokers as well ?? All compete regardless. >?

Considering building a 318 that revs and likes to move it move it! I've got options for heads, roller block. Maybe a Victor 340 intake... I already have a built 904 ready to go with RMVB.
Well, are you? did you? Why? or Why not?

It is something I plan on doing, but it's pretty far down my list as far as projects. I have a roller LA or I can use the Magnum block, my choice.

roller LA with them heads after you home port them! big ol solid roller,..2x4 induction,..live that dream so we can live it wit ya!!

Yep, we have the other classes going on and the 318 cars can obviously join in on those. We just have an additional challenge for the 318s where we keep track of their combos, time slips, as well as Dyno numbers if they get on the mobile Dyno. just the one rule! Just ranking the best on RattyMuscleCars.com

@AustinGriggs Thanks. I thought there was a 318 only class.

Freakin-A brother, FREAKIN-A!!!!!

Other than heads, is there anything that makes a Magnum block more special than a roller cam LA block? I heard theres some magnum 318 blocks that have really thick walls and can take one helluva overbore. Casting #s on those? Casting dates? What to look for? Lots of magnums in my junkyard.
.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Magnum block has a shorter deck height than the LA motor.

** Not reading through all 16 pages, of what's been covered, asked and what I said I might or might not have, and the blah blah blah.. LOL...
BUT... we've collected a few pieces for this, and do not need much more, however .... I am just crunched for time. Really crunched. The build has never left my mind though.... I like the direction, and the parts we accumulated to say the least.
(not naming the parts we have for it, but we've done well on the wallet so far)

I like the idea. It is funny how so many poo poo the 318 while worshiping at the alter of the 340. 11 to1 318 turning to 6500 would be a fun little engine.

Agreed, a 340 is only 7% bigger than a 318 basically has to turnabout 7% higher for same hp.
6050 rpm 340 = 6500 rpm 318. A 60 thou over 318/328 ain't too far off a 340 especially in the 350-450 hp range and even better if they can take a 4 inch bore for a 333. The only real problem with the 318 is dodge also made abundant of 360's too. But still doesn't stop the 318's from being a very capable engines, ford makes 3 different 351's but doesn't stop 289/302 being one of there most popular engines built, even when stroked is only 331/347. Or LS guy's doing NA 450+ hp 4.8-5.3L engines.

And remember,
a 273 bored 0.040" over and a 4" stroker crank is just 338 CI.
A 273 bored 0.060" over and a 4" stroker crank is just 341 CI.

Just saying.....

Or a 363 with a 4.25” crank :)

318 wasn't chosen, it's the choice. It's what is sitting on the engine stand. That's the reason it's being used. It wasn't by "selection" and we're certainly not trying to prove any points LOL.

Somebody chose to bolt it to the engine stand right? :)

Can you prove this? Besides calculators.
Have you been there and done that? Just wondering if your spitballing here with the aid of calculators.

What I like about the 318 is it is not actually a bad engine for performance, it’s just cubically challenged. Therefore limited. It’ll do fine in the street. I do like that some have gone to a 4.00 bore. That’s nice!
