It’s happened to me on a few occasions. I remember taking a fiancé (fell through, thank God!) on one of our first dates about 100 years ago. She got all the luck that day and embarrassed me. It made me like her more.

Today, I took my kid (from the woman who is my soulmate) to the same hole and he killed it. I spent the last two weeks on a fire assignment in Arizona, then went back to San Diego just in time for the little man’s last day of school and we headed to Oklahoma so he can spend some summer vacation with Grandpa and Grandma.

We went down to my childhood fishing hole that is always a guarantee for fish. You have to battle ticks and thorns to get there but it’s always worth it.

It’s fun sharing these moments and teaching him how to cast and get lures out of trees.

I’d like to see what you guys are setting hooks in.

And as you can see that vegetation is thicker than a Snicker!
Yes sir, but that makes fer good fishin! I LOVE to fish, but haven't been in years. Reminds me too much of my son. I tried really hard with him to get him in the right direction but he was bound to go the wrong way. I don't care that it's not "my way" it's just slap the wrong way. Kitty says I should start back again and I've been thinkin about it.

I feel guilty sometimes too. Seems like we only fish when we come back to Oklahoma. We have quality bass lakes where we live but I’m usually too busy with Mopar’in or workin. He loves Mopars too but both those bring joy in different ways.
@RustyRatRod , promise me you’ll go wet a line and I promise you I’ll take my boy fishing more too.

I will, but I'm going to have to wait till this heat breaks. I don't do well in it at all.

It's a ***** for ticks this year. So far, I've gotten at least one on me every time I go outside.
The ONLY good thing about fire ants (Venezuela’s gift to the south) is that they eat ticks. I used to be a walking tick magnet. We had to use various treatments to kill them off the dogs and we sprayed the cattle about every 3-4 months to give them some relief.

Since fire ants were accidentally introduced, the animals and I can walk all over the pasture and very seldom catch a tick. However, the fire ants are also a *****. Basically traded one devil for another.

As for ticks, I caught Lyme Disease for the 2nd time about a month ago! First time almost killed me 12 years ago.

As for fishing, we have a 10 acre lake in our front yard. Rumor has it that the state record for large mouth bass (weight class) was caught out of this lake before we moved here 15 years ago. I confess, hardly a week goes by that I don't either walk the lake or take the row boat out with a rod. Here is one of the larger ones I've caught.

With that said, I had a professional fisherman friend over several years ago and I kicked his butt! I knew the lake, I was on home turf. Later, I had a different friend over and he made me look like a novice! He was pulling in 15"+ consistently when I couldn't get a bite.

It happened to me all the time. My (sadly departed now) blushing bride would catch 20 fish to my one. We would use the same bait, same line, same lure, same everything and she'd be tired from pulling fish in the boat while I sat there staring at.........nothing. It didn't matter where we were or what we were after. Given enough of this it finally occurred to me that my job was to be the Boat Chauffeur. I was there to drive the thing around the lake so she could hammer the fish.

And of course, she was ever so happy to point out each time she got another one, that she had one on the line while I waited for even a nibble. It's a good thing it didn't bother me, and it sure made her happy.

I'm 74, and I guess I haven't fished since I was about 18. I was never "avid," We went to small holes and got perch, bluegills and crappies, along with a few bass and trout. I grew up near Lake Pend Oreille, in N Idaho, which used to be famous for rainbow trout, but I've never caught more than one small one outta there. That lake is near 1000ft deep, and at Bayview (former Navy base Farragut in WWII) the Navy has a submarine acoustical research project, my neighbor works there. There are sturgeon down there somewhere...............

My kids out-fish me on a pretty regular basis. I love it. That's what it's all about to me.
