Hey there, I have a 72 duster with the straight 225 in it and my muffler and tail pipe have holes in them and are old and need to be replaced. So im lookin for a new muffler for a 1 3/4 pipe. Im looking for something lound but not annoying or to loud or anything that makes it sound like a hot rod. If you guys have any recomendations for good sounding mufflers for the 225 that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not sure Dynomax makes the Ultra Flow Welded in that small inlet and outlet, but they can be adapted easily. Mine is a 2.5" TTI system with the Dynomax Ultra Flow welded muffler all the way back. If you don't like that sound, there are many more to choose from.

If you're going to replace the pipe, I'd go with 2-1/4" all the way back with the same size muffler, if your engine is stock. Are you running the stock manifold? If so and you have a reason to remove it, hogging out the exit hole to match 2-1/4" will help it breathe a lot better. I used a Dynomax Super Turbo on mine, it has a nice sound and does not drone.

Very Nice. thanks for the sugestion

Six straight pipes, all run over to exit under the passenger door.
And rig em up to shoot fire. Time the firing order so they fire in a row.

You'll love it, it's a way of life.

Unfortunately, sound is a subjective thing. What is music to some [ like [c]Rap 'music' ] is objectionable to others.....

Agree ! 20+ years ago Flowmaster was king. Then every car sounded the same. Now I can't stand to hear when a car passes with 'um.

I've done that to a few /6 manifolds. Before you grab the grinder, get a spare manifold to pipe gasket and bolt it on with a couple of heavy washers under the bolt heads. Compare the "concentricity" of the exhaust outlet hole relative to the attachment bolts.
One of the manifolds that I opened up was way off center l. I had 1spot I barely had to touch, basically had to grind heavily on about 3/4 of the way around,
With the manifold upside down and the flange bolt holes at 3 and 9:00 I had to grind the most at between 10 and 11:00 position and barely any at between 4:00 and 6:00.
You don't want the pipe flange to overlap a cast iron edge.

I second the 2 1/4” size recommendations and the Dynomax Super Turbo or other quality turbo style muffler. The slant likes to get buzzy, and I’ve experienced drone with chambered mufflers(although they sound great at idle and revving like @RustyRatRod above) whichever you choose, I would recommend adding a 18” resonator before the muffler on the mid pipe. There are also some decent resonated exhaust tips on the market but they are expensive and don’t quite fit the look of most classic cars.
