Don't you love how stories get embellished over time and or ALL THE FACTS get left out.......I mean we all have heard one similar to this one.....yeah I was doing 190, speedo only goes to 140 but she was still pulling and my friend casually looked over at me and asked where we were gonna eat lunch......LOL.......my gosh some of the things that I read on this site just blow my mind

I had a friend that had a 1970 GTX with 3.55 gears. It had a bad motor in it. He found a 383-2 out of a 71 Newport with 2.76 gears. We installed the engine and trans from the Newport. Didn't change the speedo gear. He always bragged how it would run 120 in the quarter. He couldn't comprehend that he wasn't really going that fast.

Yeah, like the stock 318 that will rev to 6500 RPM. Really it will!

That’s the best ever.

In '68 my friend's uncle drove up in a brand new 440 4 spd GTX, we were 16/17 years old. He asked if we wanted a ride in his new car. As we drooled we got in the car. I live in a port city and we have a large bridge (Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge). My friend's uncle drove toward that bridge. We were excited as he goosed it and the tires would break loose. We started up the really big bridge as he floored the car going through the gears. We were nailed into our seats as we drove uphill in a very powerful car!! It was great!! We finally got to the crest of the bridge doing about 120 (maybe more)?? As we topped the bridge we saw that there had been an accident on the decending side of the bridge. Cars were piled up and the traffic was stopped. As soon as my friend's uncle saw the car pile up he layed on the brakes. We skidded (down hill) for hundreds of yards as we approached the pile up. The GTX was sliding side to side and we held on for dear life. We finally came to a stop a few feet from all the stalled cars. DAMN>....Those were the good old days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I jumped my '81 TC3 50+ feet off a road approach, I was planning on "hoping" it. Ah, to be young and dumb.

Some people are superstars in their on mind!! Some people think they are the voice of reasoning....I just laugh and know thyself...they know I'm not buying what they selling, but they still love to hear themselves talk..

Is this a test?

Changing the engine would have no effect on the speedo.

Changing the rear end gears would, but you said the donor car (Newport) had 2.76, but the GTX had 3.55.

Why would you change the rear end if the engine was blown?

He didn't. The speedo drive in the donor trans was geared for the 2.76 rear. When installed in front of the 3.55s it would make the speedo read way high.

friends brother put together a tunnel ram LT-1 for his Camaro. Man, that thing would rev! (so he said) tach was set for a 6 cylinder.

I found the tach I bought off CL was set up for a four cylinder when it read 3-4k at idle.

Thats nothing. Way back when, I was doing 190, in my first bone stock 340 Dart while rolling a doobie, drinking a beer and steering with my knee. True story!

HMMMMM! I was thinking the same thing.

Not embellishing, just the truth and STUPID. Summer of 1976 my buddy and I were in my folks 1969 Fury III 383 two barrel. Car felt reasonably fast for a low perf big block. There's a residential street here in town that has an underpass under some tracks (steep approaches). It was common for us misguided youths to get straight on the underpass and nail the throttle. Front end would get real light coming out of the underpass. BUT, this one night I told my buddy I wasn't lifting. About 1/4 mile down the road was a bridge over an irrigation ditch. It also had very steep approaches. As we hit the bridge I looked down and we were doing 98. I knew when the speedometer immediately pegged we were airborne. After the PERFECT four point landing I looked at my buddy and said, "Well we survived that. Let's not do that again..." 35 mph speed limit on a road with houses today that are worth in excess of $1 million, some considerably more. This story is allegedly true...

I'm one of those people who's most commonly heard or said phrases is "I've never seen that before", or "what are the odds of that".

My entire life. I'm used to it.

Therefore, I don't embellish anything.

Other people are free to believe or not believe. That doesn't change the facts.

Here are just a few examples:

I recently recovered from a health issue that affects roughly one in 250,000 people.
That means there's ONE PERSON in the entire county.......and it's ME.

I have diabetes, but it's not type I OR type II!
It's a hybrid called by various names like LADA, MODI, and others.
It's real fun to have to explain this to doctors!

My wife has the most rare combination of recessive hair and eye color gene's- red hair and blue eyes. .017% of the population.

I once dated a girl who's last boyfriend before me was Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson).

I had to pass a field sobriety test the day I got my driver's license!
...and I was the last person to take the test on a Friday. Most of he office staff had gone home when I was done, and the card printer was shut down. I was given a sheet of paper as a temporary license, saying I could come back and get my card within 30 days. I've never heard of the before or after, and neither had the officer who pulled me over on Halloween eve (that's right I got my license the day before Halloween). I passed the test. We were made to pour out 3 beers from a case (but we acted like we poured out more in case the officers were counting) and went on our way.

I had a good friend while in the military. He owned a really nice '68 GTO. We were stationed in Wyoming but he was from Arkansas. He really missed being home so he installed a 55 gallon drum in the trunk of the GTO and plumbed it into the fuel line so he could drive non-stop back to Arkansas whenever he could get leave (yes, he pissed in a bottle). He would drive 100 mph most of the way praying that he wouldn't get a ticket. One time he had just come back from Arkansas and I met up with him. I asked how the trip went. He told me that everything went well until he topped a hill doing 100 and saw a cop sitting at the bottom of the hill. He said that he layed on the brakes as hard as he could without losing control. By the time he got to the bottom of the hill the cop had his lights on so my friend pulled over right next to the cop. The cop came walking up to him and said, "You were coming over that hill pretty fast??" My friend said, "I wasn't looking at my speedometer but I may have been going a little fast?" The cop said, "Well I clocked you doing 98, 95 and 91......what speed would you like on the ticket??" My friend dropped his head and said. "91"

I would say that is fairly believable

The 55 gallon drum seems a bit far fetched but whatever.....

It's very true. He hated being away from home (home sick). We didn't get much leave so when we did get it he wanted to be at home for as long as possible. It was a long way from Wyoming to Arkansas. I told him that he was basically driving a bomb. But he didn't care.

I have many stories about my time in Wyoming with cool powerful cars. It was the early 70s and everybody had a hot "cool" car.

Well I would agree with that part, lol

Can you close the trunk lid with a 55 gal drum in there?

None of my cars can.

My mom had a '85 ltd that might have been able to.
