Hey guys! Does anyone happen to know if the wheel bolt pattern on a 65 dart is the same as that on a duster/dart sport? I’m looking at bringing a 65 dart home soon but the tires are a little iffy so I’m wondering if I can put the wheels off my dart sport onto it to drive it home. Thanks in advance!

Wheel bolt pattern on A bodies was the same 5x4 from 1960 to 1972 and if it had 9" drum brakes, all the way to 1976. From 73 to 76, it was 5x4.5 if it was 10" drums or discs.

Shoot. I think my Dart Sport has 10” drums. I think. Not 100% sure though. I can check it tomorrow. Thanks!

The car I’m wanting to buy is a 65, but my dart sport is a 74. Aftermarket aluminum wheels if it matters
The 74 likely has the large bolt pattern. Most, but not all were after 73.

Likely with time and Hot rodding they may have been changed!

It may be rare to still find an A unless unmolested that still had a 4" on 5 pattern in that year range!

I would bet big money that 65 dart is still 5 on 4. You can check your 74s pattern easily enough.
Hang a tape measure on the far side of one stud, and measure to the middle of a stud two positions away. That will be you bolt pattern.
Aftermarket wheel on your 74, most likely 5 on 4 1/2......

All front drum A-bodies were 5x4". The style of drum changed in '73, but if your Duster is drum/drum it's 5x4". Only the front disk cars went 5x4.5" in '73.

Are you sure? My understanding was only the 9" drums retained the small pattern.

Positive. All drum/drum A-bodies were 5x4" right up until '76 when the front disks became mandatory. Only /6 cars came with front drums after '73, and there were several option packages that added disks.

But, if it was a /6 drum/drum car, it was 5x4". It's right in the factory TSB. The link has the full size image if the picture is too small to read, the TSB is on Hamtramk-Historical.

No problem! I was wrong about this myself before, so, I did the research and found the TSB etc. Like anything Ma Mopar the exact date of the swap-over can probably be debated, but the info is all there in the TSB.

Damn, Georgia, you're quick on the keyboard, 72bluNblu. You guys are sharp. I can provide high quality pictures of my Swinger for any members. Danger RRR, we're still planning on moving back to central/western Florida later this year.

That works!

:BangHead:Going to Hi-Jack here for a moment... :mob:  I have a friend with a 1965 Valiant that has been changed to 10X2-1/2 inch drums front and rear. The rear is a later large bolt pattern 7-1/4 out of an A body, and the front upper control arms and spindles have been changed to the large ball joint size that didn't show up in A bodies until 1973. The front drums I'm guessing are Kelsey Hayes stamped K-H but I’ve lost the picture with the following part number :BangHead:, and I was going to post it to see if anyone knows what it came off of. Well, DogP***Y!
But the car really does it for me, though, so here’s a picture of it, anyway.

If it uses the large upper ball joints and has the SBP then they’re 73+ A-body front drums, the same ones described in the TSB I posted. If they have the 5x4.5” pattern on the front they’re B-body drums.

Okay, thanks for clearing up some of the confusion! I was thinking they were late A body because of the information I've seen on interweb but I like knowing for sure.

And hopefully the correct upper control arm/ball joint combo. They could also be off a '70-2 E-body with 10" drums.
