How much did a gallon of gas cost when you first started driving?

With out google ?
If you can remember milk @.02 ....
It was two cents a pint for many years. We bought 6 pints twice a week....I had to go into the store and collect them....things like that are ingrained upon a young mind.
My Grandfather built a wooden crate for us to carry them in.
And I still remember the grump old prick who ran the store.

1988. I remember buying leaded gas for my 70 Chevelle SS for $.89 a gallon. Just bought VP racing 110 fuel today for $8.99 a gallon. Seems like a deal when I also paid $6.19 for diesel.

I pumped gas and "provided service" at an Atlantic "service station" while in high school, from 1966 to 1968. 24.9 for regular and 32.9 for high test. I could cruise all weekend in my 66 cuda 4 spd/273 for 5 bucks.

I remember my dad often referring to the Friday gas wars in Elmira, NY which is where he worked. Often sold for ten gallons for $1.00, yes, you read that right. That would have been early or mid 1950's I think.
There's no reason for the gas prices to be were they are. If the people would've stayed home on memorial weekend, gas prices would have dropped like a rock. Some of the high gas prices are the people's own fault as they have the mentality that they are going on vacation no matter what it costs. One lady said that she would borrow money to go on her vacation. People would surely be surprised how much the gas prices would drop off if they would just got their driving in half.

I honestly don't know how some of you older guys remember how much a gallon of gas was when you started driving (without Google).......I'm sure some of you claim to remember having your umbilical cord cut also.

I cannot remember how much gas cost when I started driving....but I do remember that milk was 2 cents a pint for many years as a kid.....shock horror when it doubled to 4 cents.
Gas was cheap back then, and every few cents would make my father and more so my Grandparents cringe.

While we're on the subject of gas prices....you guys are lucky to have such a small percentage of your gas price as tax.....over here tax makes up nearly 60 percent of the cost.
I remember how much gas was when I started driving. Also remember what it was when I was 12 when I started moving yards....and no, my dad wasn't buying my gas and never did.

Can't drive much less......3000 miles on my 96 Dakota in 2 years and 10 months. 138 miles on my 2500 diesel since the end of December. Heck, it still has 3/4 tank in it. Maybe 2500 miles on my 95 Dakota in the last 3 years.

I'm only 31, started driving right around the housing market crash of 2008 so even back then gas was around $4/gallon.

The cost of fuel and goods only matters in relation to how much people make on average anyway. Which these days is jack **** compared to 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago. Now you need a Willy Wonka golden ticket just to be a part of the "middle class."
