Safe max RPM for bone stock 5.9 magnum

-
I haven’t had the greatest luck with engines. The original stock stroke 360 in my ‘74 power wagon gave up the ghost at repeated 6,000 rpms. Lost a valve and chewed up a piston. LOL.

10 years ago on my barracuda’s stock 318 I rebuilt with just a ring and bearing job as far as short block goes, that threw a rod bearing, again repeated 6,000 rpm. The heads and top end were badass though, RHS heads prepped by IMM, Hughes rockers. Edelbrock Cam.

I shoulda resized the rods and used ARP bolts on that one.

Over tightened the intake bolts (bush league mistake) loosened them up in reverse order one at a time and torqued them to the correct 144”lbs. It kept taking coolant :drama:

Hoping the intake gasket didn’t seal but after doing some reading I could have really messed some things up.

Anything I should check before pulling the intake back off?

I put a Hughes AirGap on my car last winter when I swapped my cam and springs. I'm still running the LA TC cover and WP like you are, at least until I swap the EFI onto it (or pull it for a G3). At that time I will swap to the Magnum setup and fix the bypass issue for good.

I used a PRS-1060 fitting for the bypass fitting. I didn't like the one Edelbrock supplied as it was too long. The bypass hose was still a pain, ended up taking 3 as I kept cutting it wrong, but the last seems to work ok for the most part (still a slight leak). Your solution works well, just an FYI.

For the thermostat housing, I order a 555-53251. I didn't want the tall one, at least not until there is an AC pump that forces me to use it.

Hope you get past the coolant issue and don't have leaks. I can't tell if your picture of the dipstick is to show there isn't coolant in the pan, or that there is.

I’m hoping it was just the intake gasket that didn’t seal (it was a jegs set they sent me for free because of the speedmaster intake debacle)
I have a felpro MS95392 set that hopefully seals it up.

lots of coolant in the oil pan!

:realcrazy: I’m not sure what I was thinking using these gaskets. It’s fixed now. Hopefully the oil comes out clean eventually………

Yea the waters are muddy for sure. But I will continue to support MSD products, they have always been awesome for me.

Wish I had the same experience as that. All but one have been absolutely **** bags of garbage.

FWIW, a LOT of the 3rd-party-sold "MSD" stuff out there is bogus. Yes, the Chinese are making counterfeit MSD stuff. :BangHead::BangHead:

Bypass hose angle isn’t ideal :poke:
Paid $20 to get one of the ports opened up for my temp gauge. Also picked up a new water neck/thermostat because I guess they’re different also and the one that came with it was rusted pretty bad.

If you have clearance and are willing to deal with a slightly crude-looking solution, it's easy: loop the hose. Instead of the short, direct bend, have it go out from the intake, up, then back and down. Buddy's Aspen was like that for a while and may still be. (Not visible, so he didn't care.)

Down and dirty! But Effective!

@Jarlaxle Purchased from Summit and MSD direct, repaired by MSD direct, all garbage. Anytime or body gives me that 3rd party bullshit I loose screws.

Just thinking about it makes me want to have explosive diarrhea like when I drank my face off and ate under cooked chicken. Which is super pure mint sparkling shinny gold standing next to the FWIW CRAP **** people try and shovel up my fuckin ***.

OMGOSH, where is the toilet bowl!!!!
