Best I can figure is, the cooling system was on the edge of being able to keep it cool with the turbo and the blower pushed it over the edge. Blowers introduce a lot of heat directly into the engine, unlike a turbo, which is cold on the intake side. Maybe an intercooler?Just spitballin.
