I am in the exakt same situation as the OP. Did a search and found this thread and bring back to life. I need a longer 7/16 stud. Anyone know where I can find it?
If you knock out a current stud and give us a measurement of the knurl (width, not length) that would help.
Shoebox chevies use 7/16 studs (1955-57), might be a place to look. I have some 3" long studs for a 57, but they are two hundred miles away, so I cant tell if they would work.
