Is anyone else "touchy" about their Mopar? (long rant...)

One time a obnoxious Corvette owner was mouthing off about crap and stuff at a show and asked what I thought of his Corvette . My reply "Not bad for a girls car."

My dad says "How do you drive that piece of ****". I told him "As fast as I can"

I'm with you Charrlie ! Old school all the way.Leave the computers and techno crap for the youngsters.
I sold off my Hemi car and drag car and kept my old hooptee. People thought I was nuts.I have more fun with my beater than I ever did with high dollar stuff. For the guys that want a perfect car that's great. Just not for me anymore.

I love those more door early B bodies!!!!
I met a guy years ago back in S Ga. he loved first gen. Chargers. He had 6-7 and he also had a 68 Hemi Charger RT, perfect car. This was back in the mid or late90s. He liked it but loved is 66-7 Chargers and non ere born with a hemi!!! People called him"strange", I called him an enthusiast that knew what HE liked and thats what mattered. Great guy. Later he sold that 68 and kept his herd of first gen. Charger.

I have always had 4--6 old Mopars in various stages of car life dom. Last tie I sold them all, about 4-5 ears ago, I was moving from Mo. to Tx. so I put them all up for ale and kept the one left, the 62 Lancer. But I like it and so does the wife. People would say, keep your favorite and sell the rest. Makes sense...do I always do what makes sense??......No.
Today I have 4 Mopars and an AMC, nothing really special about anyone them. But I own them because I like them! I want to get down to 2, I am old and wore :poke::realcrazy::steering::steering::steering::thankyou::thumbsup:out. Funny part is today, old cars are not selling very quick, unless you have maybe a really nice car and a buyer that figures its a steal!
I will say, I can advertise and have a million likes and they are all 1000m away!!!!

And I will say this I have plenty of life long Mopar buds, a few even have some really desirable cars. But they are all lovers of the car. I just gravitate toward the guy that has a small ego, whether he has a junker he loves or a high $ car he loves.
Don't mater where you are, a car show, anywhere....assholes are always easy to spot.

Ive got 9 or 10 1st place trophies and 2 best in show trophies and no one is harder about judging one of my cars than myself. Im the first to admit it aint perfect and i know every flaw and imperfection in the car and believe me its a driver its very far from a "show car" my kids hit it with **** all the time in the garage ive had this 67 for 16 years now since i was 15 and let me tell ya it still pisses me off hearing people down talk it especially when i was 16 showing it but ive touched every nut and bolt in the car and spent every dollar i had growing up to make it what it is with my dad. But sometimes i got mad, others i awkwardly laughed and told them jealousy is an ugly look on them and went about my day!

Our club is very eclectic and we are open to all makes and models (but we are Mopar heavy). We've got really rare cars, cars in various stages of builds, and everything in between. We have young members, old members, male, female and entire families. The #1 rule for joining our club is "Don't be a dick" and "drive your ****". We hang out at various events (ice cream parlors), then several of us go for a spirited drive.

As far as building vs. buying everybody has a skill set and a vision. Mine skill set is fading as I get older, so I now prefer to sign a check.

Again, I appreciate other's build/vision even if it isn't my build/vision.

Cars, trucks, bikes etc, there's always the one or two folks who figure they have some advantage and have cornered the market on having the better vehicle. Comes to mind a time when I was the Service Manager at a NJ Harley dealership. After having my Softail repainted Cobalt over silver we noticed the change of colors depending on the lighting. In the sunlight it had a faint purple tint hardly noticeable but yep you could see it. So anyway, end of the day, myself and my techs were hanging outside waiting for a customer to come pickup his '77 Sportster that was serviced. After paying he was getting ready to leave and he looked at my bike and chuckled out loud "is that purple"? My guys looked at me and burst out laughing when I said "does your girlfriend know you're riding her bike"? He got all pissed off and started his rant blah blah blah. I laughed at him (because that hurts worse than more words) and just said "if you can dish it out you better be able to take it". Off he went on his bike.
P.S. I like Sportsters, but not a$$holes.

i get a lot of criticism...i just smile and say i'll let the next guy worry about it. Never bothers me at all.
I see a lot of things done to these cars that i would never do though. Some guys have odd ideas about about what they want or what is a good change or improvement.
...A lot of guys are extra sensitive about their car!

20 years or so ago, I took my ratty '65 Dart to a Slant Six Club of America car show in Kenmore Wa.. Jack Pohler, his son and some buddies showed up. I won the best "1965 Dart that actually showed up" award or something like that. Later Jack came up to me and advised that Slant Six Club members liked to keep there cars looking sharp, i.e. I should paint my car. My car is still primer red. I need to re shoot it because rust i finally showing thru. I guess I could call that patina now.

Over the years, people have came up to me and asked when I will paint the car. I usually say, "when somebody pays for it".

My engine and tranny and rear end took all my money. I need body work, but it's not bad. I still hear that stuff. One guy was drooling at my car. "I love the motor! 408 stroker?! The interior is awesome! I love the hood scoop! What tranny are you running?" " I have a GM 200 4R overdrive. " He stares at me and throws his arms up and hisses at me. Then he turns and walks away. He stops, looks back and throws his arms up again. I was pissed. I said " where's your car asshole? Build your own. I'll build mine the way I like it!" I guess I pissed off the Mopar Gods by putting a GM part in my car.
Its funny , the guys with the biggest mouths tend to have no car at all!

I always had put together cars. First came brakes, tires, suspension, engine, transmission, rear, interior, then body. Don't care what anybody else thinks. IF you ever drove one of mine you'd love it, nothing gets done for looks. My 66 had so many different color body parts from different cars, my kids used to call it the Cow car. When I finally had money, I drove it from MD to SD to have it done on a rotisserie. I pulled the drive train and told Brian to call me when it was done. Just once I wanted a car that was all done. Went back out, installed the drive train and drove it back. Never will I find something bad to say to some one about their car, unless they want to put a Chevy in a MOPAR.

Heck now days, there are Mopar guys that even put GM HEI and Ford 8.8 rear in their ride. It ain't the old days when we bought running 69 Roadrunners for $1000-$1500!!!!!! I admit I am a dinesaur!!!!! OK so I an spell dinesaur and neither an the damn puter!!!!!!! Where's that book called the dictionary!!?????:rofl::popcorn:

I'm lucky, I knew the best parts to snag decades ago. I don't need to go to a Ford or Chevy part to run good. We used to buy a new distributor, ECU and all the wiring for less than $100. I've tried almost all the "improvements", but in the end I like the best original "A" Body parts best, small bolt pattern and all. HEI distributors used to be done at 4,500 rpm, no point in putting that in a 273. As for an O/D trans, I'd run an 833 O/D, no problem. But we put lots of miles on the 904 and 727 transmissions, and depending on setup would get good mpg. You think I'm not a Dinosaur? I have a tie pin given to me by my wife to prove it.

You're right about original Mopar parts. It's been my experience that more often than not aftermarket parts are a step backwards.
