In 3 years I have had 2 blow out on number 7 cyl I was in first gear and stood on it I got my new 650 holley on ,that shure woke it up for sure, any how by the time I let off bang another blow out.i do keep an eye on the header bolts.dont who why this is happened.thease are old hookers made well back in the day.

I may have but if that was the case 1 would think all cylenders would blow.i
Reason I ask is they seem to be specific about their torque specs. They arent steel shim style, so they dont want you to over tighten them and squish the seal. Some of their specs seem to be head scratching with as low as they are.

Could be a head or flange warp issue. I always cut the flange between the front and rear ports so each tube (or both in the middle) are independent of the others.

I agree

I agree, either somethin's not flat, somethin's not torqued correctly, or both. I have the Remflex exhaust gaskets on my slant 6 and I must admit, I didn't read any instructions, I just tightened the PISS out of everything, but I've not had one problem and it's been together over a year.

My only complaint with Remflex is they are not reusable. They tear up on disassembly. That said, they seal like a ****.

Pull the header out of the car, drag a file across each port flange keeping it parallel to the flange...

#7 is probably going to need some reworking, if theres a definite gap you might need to run a weld bead to build up the ridge around the port.... Build it up & grind/file it back till the defined ridge is straight & flat....

As Toolman Mike mentioned cut the flanges between the ports

There are several gaskets for the LA and B/RB, are you using the correct one for your heads?

Use the felpro header gaskets. Jmo
Edelbrocks are decent for a couple years too. Remember the days when the gaskets held for a decade?

On V8s I've always used the stock exhaust manifold gaskets with metal on one side and never, ever had one leak. Ever.

well its all back together no noise now , but your advice is noted.

I agree with the cutting and separating the three sections, also check the lengths of the bolts or depth of the hole in the head. Possible bolt or bolts are bottoming out. If all else fails, try doubling up on the gasket. Not the metal type, but the Fel-Pro or similar gasket.

This is the very first I've ever heard of a remflex gasket EVER leaking....
It ain't the gasket...
Have them on both my mopars and all of my customers Chevys Fords and never a problem.. I practically insist on them for my customers because I don't want any trouble... And neither do they...

I learned after installing the 4th, or 5th set of headers that leaked, that the head flange is anything but true.
Back in the day, I was installing 2 or 3 sets of headers, a coupla 3/4 race cams, and a few 4:11 gearset a week ! !
My mentor taught me how to "draw file", and insisted I did it on every header install.
Weld the valleys, file the high points till the mating surface is true.
I have seldom had a leak at the flange , use Mr Gasket or supplied gaskets, AND have never used a Remflex .

My nephew couldn’t seal up his used hooker super comps. Threw out the gaskets and used the orange rtv. Hasn’t had a leak in 3 years. Kim

I've gotten new headers, and seen the weld on the rear of flange weren't square. Filed em down, like said many times above
