i was reinstalling the extension housing on my 904 today (trying another governor) and somehow i thought that the park rod was in place when i put it together. got it all done and realized the trans was in neutral when i did the work. now it wont shift . i suspect the park rod is jamed in there somehow . can i just separate the case ,( i know i have to deal with the snap ring) and slide it back on the cross member until the driveshaft is tight. and try to manipulate it in place or is it a total removal?

If it is truly jammed you may need to pull the housing back off and fix it. Before you put it back together, I would pull the valve body out, then reassemble. Best way to ensure no issues.

Yeah, the vb sounds like the way to go. It will probably come out. It could be all jammed up in there so bad that the park rod will have to be replaced; which you can't do with just the tailhousing removed. Might have to remove both.
