I go down a road in my neighborhood because of a detour and this road is literally like being in another part of the country. There is one house that has a real caboose train car in the yard and a bunch of vehicles. When I was driving by yesterday I took a good look and saw a Ramcharger pickup that looked to be in nice shape, a 70 Duster that is in black primer and had at least one rallye wheel on it and also what looks like a Road Runner under a cover missing its front clip in the driveway. I am thinking about going to the house and knocking on the door but I do not want to get shot.......hahaha.....Would you knock? or let it go?

I say go for it. Can you rig up a white flag and slowly emerge from your vehicle waving it? It might help when approaching them. lol.

My wife has a nice caboose! Does that count?

Agree on the "No Trespassing" sign.

I would get good and liquored up, gas up your Mopar, and pull several WOT passes up and down his street to get his attention. Make sure it's either early in the morning or late at night. Once he's out of the house, you can pull one more pass and come sliding into his front yard sideways. Toss him a beer and without asking, just start picking through his cars. He'll be speechless.

.Would you knock?
Stop by in your classic, it`s an easier ice breaker.

I drive by this house for decades, never see the guy out, always has a mid 60`s buick parked outside, but know he`s in his garage working on something. One trip I see he`s acquired an early 60`s Impala, I like those cars.
Months later I see the Impala has a 4sale sign on it. Now I have an excuse to stop and bug the guy. I figured he`d be in his 70`s and was surprised, he was about 10 yrs. younger and a very approachable cool dude.
He was selling the car for a buddy, a 63, rougher than anything I wanted to deal with especially with the price. He agreed. Then he showed what he was working on in his garage, a 38 chev coupe, gasser tribute, cool car, I invited him to bring it to our local cruise in when finished.
I do understand hesitation approaching strangers, ya never know what you`ll get.
Go knock.:)

Always show up in an old car. Makes the meet and greet ice breaker so much easier. Be nice, respect his property and his possessions and don’t jump out and say “whatcha got for sale”. Just introduce yourself and speak car language. Make a friend.

You could always send a letter and enclude a photo of your car.

Only problem with cold call knock on the door is this guy might have 10 people a month knock.

Letter puts it in his ball court.

Enclude your phone number, email address, text number, address photos of your cool rides, and what you 0lan on doing with the car if he sold it to you.

Are you looking to flip it or restore and keep?

And have a cold sixer in the trunk.
Even if he's not interested in selling any of his vehicles, you never know what he may have hoarded in the way of parts... or may know of other stuff in the area.
Just don't be too pushy or nosey- as you said, make a friend first!

It absolutely pisses me off when people come bang on my door asking if my stuff is for sale. No for sale sign. If it's for sale I'd put a for sale sign in it. And even at that I would probably advertise it on Craigslist without it for sale sign in it because I don't like strangers knocking on my door. My last truck wasn't in my front yard 24 hours and I was at work and some stranger was knocking on my door with just my wife home...
Send a letter... My 2...

Nobody knows how to actually write a letter anymore... and notes on windshields or doors generally just get tossed. Pick your time to approach the guy- just picture how YOU would want to be approached. NOT in the middle of the work day, NOT at dinnertime. After work hours, but not just as the guy's pulling into the driveway after a long frustrating day. Then phrase it politely, like you're asking a favor- "Hey, I was driving by, and noticed you're a Mopar guy. I've got a '70 Duster (or whatever) that I'm working on, and thought you may know of someone or some place that may have *** parts I'm trying to find". It breaks the ice, doesn't put him (or you) in a spot you're not comfortable with, and opens the door for the conversation to develop in a hundred different directions with no pressure on anybody.
He could counter with "Yeah, I might know a few people" or "How would you like a whole car?" Either way, you win.
It's just the art of tactful conversation- too bad social media has all but killed it.

Don't forget if you did, everyone in this area would offer you less than half than your asking price, because "flipper".

I've had a couple of instances just recently wanting to just go knock on a door but I feel strange doing it in case the person doesn't want to be bothered. I have a friend who I told about a 71 Demon stored in a garage. He got the address and sent a registered letter to the address and didn't even get a response from the person. I like the idea of driving by the house in my Duster on the chance of seeing a sign of life outside. Its close enough to where I live and I wouldn't be going out of my way at all. I honestly would not even ask if anything was for sale......unless the train car is.....hahaha....If I were to have a conversation with the owner and one thing led to another and his cars were for sale I would definitely check out the Duster in the yard and what's under the cover. I found google maps views of the property and some of the vehicles were not there in 2019. The train car and Airstream have been there all along.

Drove by the house on my way home from work yesterday.....The Duster looks to be B5 blue in spots and the car under a cover in the driveway is definitely a Road Runner, Belvedere, or a Satellite. The cover is kind of tight and the lines of the car are very visible through the cover......What are the chances its an A-12 and the Duster is a 340?.....Yes I am a dreamer. I'm sure whatever it is under that cover is a mess since covers do bad things to cars when they are on the car for years outdoors.

talk is cheap , lets see it ---------lol
Yup... pics or it did not happen.

On topic. The formal letter is the way to go. Shows you respect their privacy and are likely not some non serious tire kicker who just wants to talk shop.

Take the Danny Koker approach and be really nice......and a gun.

I think I am going to leave a letter in the mailbox but going there packing sounds like a plan as well....hahaha. I am going to drive by over the weekend in my Duster and hope I see a sign of life at the house. If not I'll put a letter in the mailbox.

That's against the law.. tampering with a mailbox... Mail it.

well I drove by the house today in my Duster and there were a couple of younger guys near the street firing up a dodge pickup. They definitely heard and saw my car and I waved and they waved back. I went down the street and turned around and went back. I pulled up and they were looking cause they heard me. I said I had to come back to ask about the Duster in his yard. The car was his.....It was an original B5 blue slant 6 3 on the tree car. Its many colors now. Then I asked if the car in the driveway under a cover was a Road Runner. He said it was a Satellite with no deivetrain but it was a 318 904 car originally. He said nothing was for sale and I told him he had some nice yard art and I went on my way. He did ask if my car was an original 340 car and he has seen me around in my car. Of course I had to leave a big *** dual patch when I left his house.
