B1 heads?

I've always been a fan of the original B1 heads. I was wondering if those heads are still available and what other heads would be comparable?
 
B1's were the thing 20-years ago, but today I think using an Indy Predator head is where it's at compared to a B1. The heads are available in wedge and Hemi bolt pattern with the latter being a better choice in my opinion do to the attachment configuration. A Predator head will flow in the 530 cfm range.

I think I remember reading a B-1 flowed 365 cfm out of the box and ported around 420 cfm.

The Predator heads have symmetrical port design and are probably the best flowing head available in a wedge configuration for a Mopar.

ive use indy and b-1 heads.indy is more racer friendly.i have b-1 heads on my dart.not too impressed plus there real heavy.if i het another motor it will be indy heads
 
I had Tom Hemphill cut my old pistons from Indy for B1 heads so I could use them either head on my 572 years ago. I ended up using my hand ported 440-1 heads on it and ran 8.40@160mph in my Daytona and still had a few issues to figure out. Never had a chance as an oil line broke and I wrecked the car in 2010. I now wish I would have used those pistons in my new 572 but I bought Jason Digbys nitrous pistons and converter. I now have almost zero interest in running nitrous. That engine is together with B1 heads that I had flowing 420. There’s more there but I wanted to get the engine together. I did more work to my 440-1 heads several years ago and had the flowing in the 370’s and then had a local shop open them up for 2.250 valves but never worked on them again yet. Like someone said the Indy heads are more user friendly but a road less traveled is always more difficult. Plans are to probably at least pull the transmission and put an NA converter in it for some hits one of the days.

It’s a strut mounted in the stock location for heads up rules. I can’t remember what engine cradle Steven used but I wouldn’t recommend them. I called and emailed him and he got back to me 7 months later. My buddy did a lot of work to get the frontend geometry right. Here’s a few pictures.

B1's are wedge heads, the Predators are a canted valve setup and some classes don't allow/penalize them. There really isn't anything comparable from Indy, maybe the 600-13's, but I have no experience with those. The B1 Originals are commonly ported to over 400cfm, the moved centerline heads can go 20 more than that. The two B1 offerings over that, the PSO (unicorn) and TS(even more unicorn, canted valve) are basically experiments for the user to resolve on their own. In that respect, the Predator is the way to go, a far more developed package, or at least publicized, which might well be near the same thing. Any way you slice it, you're going to be massaging things, but it's the difference between rubbing on a college cheerleader, or rubbing on a sumo wrestler. S/F....Ken M
