I have a 1965 Barracuda a/6 with the 904 that has two cable going from shifter to the transmission.

The park cable has fluid leaking from somewhere. I'm new to transmissions and wondering best diagnostic tips and possible fix solutions.

Any issue with removing the cable from the trans? How would I do that?

Could I upgrade the shifter to single cable and keep the transmission or would I need a new one?

Thanks for any advice.

There's a gasket for the park cable housing, also here's an o ring seal on the cable which changes gears, probably just need to replace the gasket on the park lever,

you can convert but you would need a 66 transmission and all the linkages and he steering column, drive shaft, bracket which mounts the levers on etc, also you would need to drill one hole where the frame is were he brake prop valve is at.

But why do all that!, when You can buy the universal gasket material at oriellys and trace it on the parking lever housing add a bit of gasket let in dry for a bit.

Thanks so much. You just made my weekend! I’ll investigate the gasket and O ring then post how it went.

To avoid creating another string along these lines...

Swapped out the leaking Park cable on my 1964 pushbutton 904 Torqueflite....(225 /6)

Is it "normal" for transmission fluid loss to occur when you remove the housing cover lower plug?

Tech manual had no instruction calling for a catch can or anything.

Yes the Park cables will leak through the crimp and O-ring in the housing. I have a 63 Belvedere PB 727 that would leak 5qts in 3 days. Converter Drain back was the issue, solved that by using a Sonex pressure regulator valve. It addresses that issue among others. Think they make one for the 904. Got to pull the V-body though. I still have a little drip from the cable but not a flood of ATF. Looking for a cable but Baby steps as more $ comes in.
