$3k Drag Challenge - A-body vs B-body

When you guys going to be at Barona Drags again?

My fire crew is on top of the rotation again so we’re next to go to the next big fire. I might have to miss it.

We race this Friday. Movin fast to get the Dart back together.

Worked over the heads some to squeeze a few extra ponies. At no surprise, my early magnum heads were cracked. Not like that’s going to stop me though

What’s going on in this area? You can see it in the 8:55-9:20 section of your video. Looks like it’s cracked bad and about to come loose but I’m sure it’s not as bad as it looks or you’d probably have grabbed another head from the junkyard.

Love the videos. You’re from Washington State?

FYI, the Dakota R/T never got the “R/T” head. Those where Mopar Performance heads only and where never put on a production vehicle. So all the production Magnum heads are pretty much the same.

IMO, the JY heads to look for now are the EQ heads that were used to replace the factory heads when they cracked and then run for several years before the rig was junked. I haven’t spotted any, but seems reasonable that if you keep your eyes open they should show up once in awhile.

I certainly wish R/T heads came on R/T Dakotas and Durangos I'd have 3 sets instead of 1! They should have.... but never did! There are 2 versions of them, which is really just valve size. Also, the previous head before going Magnum was the 714... similar but alittle better than the 302.

It looks like a crack in the photo but, it’s actually carbon build up. My flashlight caused it to have a slight shadow making it look like a crack. I do have a cracked head though. Depending on how this 318 is running after the race, I may swap the heads.

If your not doing the work yourself, that’s more than the budget I think. Maybe not, IDK. Turn crank, new bearings, then new pistons? Balancing costs? Decking block costs?

Looks like fun anyway.
Turn a cast crank? Ugh. . If I was gonna do that, I'd want Reliability

Good catch and thanks for the heads up. I must’ve read that wrong somewhere. I’ve never had the pleasure of working with the R/T heads.

All good, I’ve heard people say it multiple times. You’re not the first. And it makes some sense to use the R/T heads on the R/T Dakotas, but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

Probably too late now, but in case you weren’t aware there are some MP porting templates for the Magnum heads. Just something you print to scale and drop into the port/valve guide and open up the bowl until it fits.

Ok, we are almost a week past the event. I saw Reuben's video (aka muscle city madness). Who won ??

Let’s just say I drove the Dart to work today so, it left the track still running lol. Still editing the video footage. Both Jonny and I expect to have our videos ready by this weekend . I’ll definitely post the link on this thread.

Didn’t get to post this before the race but, I recorded a quick video on swapping the Dart’s 10” drums for 11” disc brakes via the Pirate Jack disc brake kit. Thankfully, this didn’t go against the budget. Would’ve cost 2500-3000 for a shop to do it here in San Diego. I completed this for about 1k total.

It’s on…

A-body vs B-body
Small block vs big block
$3k budget - 3 month build - Best of 3 races

I’m taking on Jonny Mopar in a head-to-head drag race challenge that’ll be documented on YouTube. That 3k budget includes the purchase price of the car. I will be on here ROUTINELY welcoming any advise you all may have. Gona need to work some magic to win this one.

you mean a 350 shot
i watched a friend back in the day spray 300 shot on a 318-2 barrel
dropped a 4 barerl and headers on it
it was quite comical motor had 80k on it at the time
