Had to let go of a friend yesterday.

You really went above and beyond for him and he showed his love and appreciation for you. Very well done. Thanks to you and everyone else here that take in stray cats and dogs. Y'all are good people.
I know that this is off topic but I'm glad that everyone is supportive of each other when something like this happens. We've lost 4 dog's ourselves.

I don't think it's off-topic. Car people seem to be very good to pets and really care about them. It's nice that there are so many of us on the car forums to offer a kind word (or some empathy in my case this week, because this is helping me, too).

So sorry for your loss. Pets become part of our families. We have 3 cats and 2 are getting old and will be hard to say goodbye. You gave him a good home and he repayed it with his love

...and then there was the snoring.

When he found us, he had very large jowls and an extremely muscular neck.

He was built like a bulldog.

It was impossible to "scruff" him by pinching the loose skin on the back of his neck...because there wasn't any.

Looking back, it was likely the thyroid issue that caused this, and about 2 years ago, he abruptly lost all that.

I once went to look at a project car (original paint, bronze/gold 73 Satellite 400-4 ex GA unmarked cop car 4 door with bucket seats and cop radio still in it), and the seller had a small bulldog that was the same size, build, and colors!

Anyway, Vincey could snore with the best of them.
Sometimes my wife couldn't tell if it was me or him snoring.

Here's his bulldog phase, late 2013.

I'm very sorry for your loss. You always know that an animal loves you, during the times you may feel like nobody else does. I'm afraid it won't be too much longer until I have to make one of these posts. Vincent lived a great life with you and will be waiting for you at The Rainbow Bridge. R.I.P. Vincent. :(

I’m very sorry about your loss of Vincent. I still think about my little buddy Morty & it’s coming up on 10 years.
My thoughts are with you FABO friend.

I really understand. After 14 years, this guy is fading fast this year. The vet says he's ok, he's just getting old.

Cute pooch.

This afternoon I've started contemplating my own mortality.

I should have figured.

Usually happens when a friend or relative goes.

Not real comfortable.

That gets me thinking. Industrial electrician for 32 years. Coal burning power houses, chemical plants, you name it, I've done it.
I've got stainless rods in both arms and left leg.
2 hernia surgeries, AND got shot 9mm through my left knee last September.
Also functioning alcoholic.
Retired 3 months ago to try and salvage what's left at 55 years old.

I feel your pain, man. We just had to put down our 17-year-old cat Biggie on Wednesday. His lungs were surrounded by fluid. :( My wife and I got him just before we got married, and we're both taking it pretty hard. He was a good boy. Here's a picture of him wearing a lei for some reason. :) Sorry for your loss...it stinks, I know.

Very sorry for your loss also. They are great companions.

What a bummer.
It is so hard to let go.
Just like people each pet has it's own personality.
Pets can be such a comfort .
Blessings for sure.
I'm sorry for your grief.

Sorry for your loss. I understand the pain you are going through. We've been through it 4 times.
