Hey all

I made a post to this forum about a month ago in search of help/advice. Normally when I speak to other car enthusiasts, they’re pretty happy to find that a younger person like myself is into these older cars, and they’re glad I’m doing my best to keep them on the road. I did not see this type of response on this forum, and it made me feel ashamed to even be part of the Mopar community.

Since I’m currently engineless and can’t get hold of a working slant six, I was tossing around the idea of LS swapping my Valiant, and wanted to know if anyone had any leads on a potential swap kit. I had no expectations of there being such a kit, but thought I’d ask anyway. Apart from a few helpful replies from members such as @RustyRatRod and others, I was mainly met with loads of angry replies and just plain bullying. To quote one member’s reply: “You know the sound of the cork coming out of the wine bottle, do you suppose a guy here’s that after he pulls his head out of his butt after realizing he should ask such dumbass questions on a Mopar forum?” Other replies consisted of belittling my abilities and questioning my intelligence.

Being part of a community is about supporting others in the community. Sure some people may have differing opinions, but in the end we all want the same thing: to see Mopars on the road rather than rotting away in a field or being crushed in a junkyard. I’d rather have that no matter what engine is powering it. I find it incredibly sad and pathetic that upon seeking advice from other enthusiasts, I was met with hatred and an inability to accept others’ ideas. The replies I received discouraged me from even wanting to get my car back on the road. I have never seen this much unsupportive behavior towards another member from any part of the car community, or any other non-automotive community for that matter. I am expecting this post to receive a few similar replies as my previous one. To those of you who comment things like this: you know who you are, be better.

Don’t let it get you discouraged, there’s plenty of people that would help you out on a LS swap.

What year Valant? And when you start, make sure you post on how you do it.

It's a '65. The swap is entirely doable given that I work at a shop with the necessary tools and experienced coworkers. I will definitely make sure to post about it if I decide to go through with it.

Thanks for the kind words. I may be gruff at times, but you won't see me belittle someone for their choices about how they want to build their car. As long as it's a Mopar being worked on and saved, I don't give a **** what powers it. Yes, I PREFER Mopar power of course, but we all do things differently and I welcome different. It's called hot rodding. That's what it's all about. Building your car your way. I hope you don't let the negativity of some deter you from your build and that you keep us posted on it. A lot of us here are interested, regardless of the power plant.

Thank you for being interested and supportive. It's people like you that keep a community going.

Greg @Kern Dog for one would joke about it, but I bet if you were close enough he would be the first to help.
Yes, I might poke with the stick myself, but would never mean anything in a malicious way. It's hard to argue with the LS platform. They are cheap, everything is available for them and they can flat out make power. As I said, I prefer Mopar, but I endorse anything that keeps an old Mopar on the road and out of the scrap yard.

Most Mopar people are pretty passionate about keeping their cars strictly Mopar. That is why all the backlash. Then you get those that say, "Build it your way." After that, your way is fine, until you either decide to sell it, or engine swap it with another brand, in which case, you walk the plank either direction you go, as you found out.

If you wish to LS it, or that is your only viable option, proceed as you wish. Built up right, they're great motors.:popcorn:

My neighbor had a 74 (I think) Duster. He swapped in a LS1?(I think). Regardless, he loved it, let me drive it and I loved it. Parts are plentiful and affordable. It was so affordable I was thinking about doing the same thing. The aftermarket support on the motor was fairly large! Good luck on your build.

Waa waa waaa.....
Anyone that posts a question on a Mopar board about the availability of a NON Mopar engine swap kit is either ill informed, looking to annoy people or just desperate and clueless. I am not trying to troll or insult you. This simply is how I see it.
I remember the thread...I didn't make note of the one that started it. I made jokes and insults about the subject and I'd do it again.
By the way...I know a guy that always talks about putting a 22R Toyota engine in an early Valiant and I give him **** about it too.
I am one that would probably GIVE you an engine to use if I had one but I draw a hard line against Chevy engine swaps in a Mopar.
I have owned several A body cars over the years and have a decent stockpile of parts. I've given away stuff to young dudes that didn't have much money or experience because I love the thought of young guys that are interested in these great cars.
"Mopar Community"....
That is a made up term. We don't all think the same. There are numerous enthusiasts that have a common interest but it isn't like we are elected officials in a federal building, we aren't all in the same town. We are not all related. We are individuals that will agree, disagree, argue, compliment, tease, help, guide, educate, warn and piss off each other.
I live under a general theme that almost every subject has the capacity to be funny through insults, teasing, self deprecating comments and other means. If you'd take a look at my post history here or at FBBO, you'd know that.
Those that are easily offended will never be as happy as those that can actually take a joke and send one back that is equally obnoxious.
I don't spend my time being offended and I am a happy dude.
Grow a thicker skin and understand that suggesting a GM engine swap was going to get some negative responses. Try joining a Chevy forum and ask about doing a 3G Hemi swap in a Chevelle and see how many positive replies that you get. Seriously...It is just as silly.

Don't know your original thread so this is just my reply to what you posted here. You want to about talk hatred? Go on to a Chevy or Ford forum and talk about dropping a Mopar or foreign engine in one of those! You'll really see the butthurt flow!

Yeah, I'm one of those guys that prefer a Mopar heart in a Mopar. That said, I plan to run a GM transmission in my DD. I've caught flack for it but I don't care what anyone says. However, I'll build my ride just the way someone thinks I should if they're willing to foot the bill!

If you're looking for a replacement for your /6, I know someone here in Tucson that would give you a helluva deal on a complete engine and transmission. It would be a straight bolt in and have you going again.

In conclusion, any internet forum (I've been a part of a lot! - dirt bikes, musician, autos, firearms, sports) if you go against the grain, or the popular opinions, you're going to catch hell to some degree. You're going to need to grow some thicker skin if you're going to be participating in any online forum. Also, try not to insult an entire "community" as it probably isn't the best way to make friends of those that might actually be of some help or, at the least, provide moral support. Finally, it's your car and you're footing the bill. Build it any way you wish, as long as you're happy with it, let the haters be damned!

"However, I'll build my ride just the way someone thinks I should if they're willing to foot the bill!" Exactly. I couldn't have said that any better!

Everyone is so precious these days. Pour water on Mike Tyson, get punched but don't be surprised.
Put your hand in a hornet's nest and expect to get bitten.
Action: Reaction.
Consequences.
Go in a bar full of Harley owners and ask them for advice on swapping in a Honda engine. Good way to shorten your life.
I've read the responses to your first thread and they are exactly what I would expect.
Nothing to be ashamed of.

holy overly sensitive.. i'm one who actually supported the swap. if that thread upset you that much i can't even imagine how you get through a day without getting your feelings hurt in the real world. or is this post just to get some attention?

You hit the nail right on the head. This forum is just like high school, and what is written here is only on the surface, I have been witness to the off forum **** and its worse. I only stay here to enjoy the Circus. There are a couple of really good people here though but there are some I wouldn’t cross the street to piss on if they were on fire.

Swapping a Chevy engine in a MOPAR is stupid. Why engineer everything from scratch. MOPAR to MOPAR is a simple bolt in from a slant six to a small block. And MOPAR engines last forever compared to a Chevy motor. Why go backwards, and in the end, your car will be worthless. Swapping a cheap Chevy engine in a MOPAR is not part of the MOPAR community thing. There are plenty of Chevys that need a motor, why do you think they are so cheap?

Its YOUR car do what you want with it. I am very surprised you got crap from people. Sometimes in jest yes.

Oh I don't know. I can see his point. He's a kid looking for advice. He asked a question. A pretty brave one considering WHERE he asked it. LOL Just look at post #21 callin his idea stupid. People have been crossbreeding cars and engines since this all began. Everybody has feelings, regardless of how hard some act.
