Ashamed of This Community

Hey all

I made a post to this forum about a month ago in search of help/advice. Normally when I speak to other car enthusiasts, they’re pretty happy to find that a younger person like myself is into these older cars, and they’re glad I’m doing my best to keep them on the road. I did not see this type of response on this forum, and it made me feel ashamed to even be part of the Mopar community.

Since I’m currently engineless and can’t get hold of a working slant six, I was tossing around the idea of LS swapping my Valiant, and wanted to know if anyone had any leads on a potential swap kit. I had no expectations of there being such a kit, but thought I’d ask anyway. Apart from a few helpful replies from members such as @RustyRatRod and others, I was mainly met with loads of angry replies and just plain bullying. To quote one member’s reply: “You know the sound of the cork coming out of the wine bottle, do you suppose a guy here’s that after he pulls his head out of his butt after realizing he should ask such dumbass questions on a Mopar forum?” Other replies consisted of belittling my abilities and questioning my intelligence.

Being part of a community is about supporting others in the community. Sure some people may have differing opinions, but in the end we all want the same thing: to see Mopars on the road rather than rotting away in a field or being crushed in a junkyard. I’d rather have that no matter what engine is powering it. I find it incredibly sad and pathetic that upon seeking advice from other enthusiasts, I was met with hatred and an inability to accept others’ ideas. The replies I received discouraged me from even wanting to get my car back on the road. I have never seen this much unsupportive behavior towards another member from any part of the car community, or any other non-automotive community for that matter. I am expecting this post to receive a few similar replies as my previous one. To those of you who comment things like this: you know who you are, be better.

Waa waa waaa.....
Anyone that posts a question on a Mopar board about the availability of a NON Mopar engine swap kit is either ill informed, looking to annoy people or just desperate and clueless. I am not trying to troll or insult you. This simply is how I see it.
I remember the thread...I didn't make note of the one that started it. I made jokes and insults about the subject and I'd do it again.
By the way...I know a guy that always talks about putting a 22R Toyota engine in an early Valiant and I give him **** about it too.
I am one that would probably GIVE you an engine to use if I had one but I draw a hard line against Chevy engine swaps in a Mopar.
I have owned several A body cars over the years and have a decent stockpile of parts. I've given away stuff to young dudes that didn't have much money or experience because I love the thought of young guys that are interested in these great cars.
"Mopar Community"....
That is a made up term. We don't all think the same. There are numerous enthusiasts that have a common interest but it isn't like we are elected officials in a federal building, we aren't all in the same town. We are not all related. We are individuals that will agree, disagree, argue, compliment, tease, help, guide, educate, warn and piss off each other.
I live under a general theme that almost every subject has the capacity to be funny through insults, teasing, self deprecating comments and other means. If you'd take a look at my post history here or at FBBO, you'd know that.
Those that are easily offended will never be as happy as those that can actually take a joke and send one back that is equally obnoxious.
I don't spend my time being offended and I am a happy dude.
Grow a thicker skin and understand that suggesting a GM engine swap was going to get some negative responses. Try joining a Chevy forum and ask about doing a 3G Hemi swap in a Chevelle and see how many positive replies that you get. Seriously...It is just as silly.
