South Dakota and Colorado later this month

Low key day today. Restock some food, we did some laundry. Packed up as much as possible as we head out early tomorrow for Colorado Springs. More fun to come after driving all day tomorrow. Stay tuned.....

Remember in my opening post, when I asked about weather and such. Mid 40''s (F) here in SD this am at 5am. And quite breezy. 1st time in my life that I have ever worn a sweatshirt on a June vacation. LOL. The weather has been beautiful all around. Supposed to be in the 70's for most of the drive today.

Wait till you get to The Springs in the Colorado Rockies.

Welcome to colorful Colorado. Have fun.
I-70 west of Denver is a major problem. Just not enough room for all the traffic.

Denver sucks. Springs isn't near as bad.
Are you going up Pikes Peak tomorrow?

Thought I should mention this place. Only castle in America that is built by one man.

It's free and only a few hours south of Colorado Springs.
Make sure to take a trip through Garden of the Gods.
Drive around Manitou Springs and check out the historic buildings and crazy streets.
Upper Gold Camp and Lower Gold Camp roads are fun drives.
Cheyenne mountain road up to Helen hunt falls is pretty cool.
No campers in most of those places.

I'm spelunking today and will be out of service for the entire day. If you have any questions or need any ideas or guidance while in Co. feel free to pm me and we can talk. When I return this evening. Otherwise I hope you have a great time in this great state. (has it's flaws)

Been in sweatshirts and jeans all day today touring The Garden of The Gods. Took us 6 hours to drive and walk the parts we chose to do. And a big thanks to @Cuda Hunter for the Rampart Range Rd suggestion. We drove about 5 miles deep before heading back. Way cool! And had lunch at Cane's for the 1st time.

My wife and I took a 9 week road trip out west last year. If you get in to south west Colorado , check out Durango, Silverton, Telluride. The San Juan Mountains are spectacular.

Colorado Springs is it for today and tomorrow. Not being a member of the retirement community, I can't do any more then about 2-1/2 weeks at a time. Day after tomorrow we drive all day for a sleep night, then on to Casey, IL for 2 nights. Then a sleep night otside of Pittsburgh, Pa, then home. Last time I was near Pittsburgh, Jake and I made a round trip to pick up some parts for his 65 from another membe (forget his name), and stopped by @HemiMark and his Sonoma Pizza bar and grill for a couple of burgers.

Today was the Pikes Peak Hill Climb race. Did not know that until yesterday. Tomorrow, we are driving it to the top.

I gotta say, the drive up Pikes Peak was truly awe inspiring. I've seen mountain views that were beautiful on my East coast , but today was just amazing. Pictures do not do it justice. 38* at the summit today. 68 at the base. I will admit, about 3/4 of the way up I could not look out the side windows for the view while driving. Made me feel a tad dizzy if I took my eyes off the road.

Ran out for a bite tonight instead of making a mess at the camper. This is a $9 plate. Almost too much food....

My step daughter and family are stationed in Colo Springs. We were there in February, so, all the upper mountain roads were closed. We'll get out there when the roads are open. Beautiful country!!

Another easy drive from Topeka to Casey, IL. Got here, set up and we jumped in the pool. Felt good to just relax for a couple of hours on vacation. LOL
However, have you guys seen the movie RV with Robin Williams and Jeff Daniels ? I swear Travis Gornicke is here. This dude at the pool looks, talks and acts just like him. My son wants to ask him if he's got a hose spreader. LOLOLOL
