Slant 6 power issues

Spricey,
You will loooooove the Webers. Throttle response that can only be dreamed of.....
Couple of tips.

- from Redline in Hollywood, get some Viton needles & seats. Ws normally come with steel n/seats & are not as reliable for street use.
- Ws are veeeeeeeeery sensitive to fuel pressure, 4 psi max. Use the Carter 4070 elec fuel pump, probably also get from RD.
- some W intakes do not allow for PCV or vac for a brake booster.
- contrary to popular belief, Ws are very reliable when set up as above.
Sick! Thanks I’ll screenshot that and keep it for reference. I don’t feel the need for a brake booster honestly. I’m going to do Discs on the front anyway. I already have complete OEM mopar disc brake/hub assemblies and a big bolt pattern rear end for it. But it stops pretty good as it is with its Olde in serviced drums that it has. So boosting the brakes would be great but not entirely necessary in my mind. I’ll check out that fuel pump too. I definitely prefer to stick with my stock mechanical pump if possible, but if I have to go electric then I will. I have an electric pump laying around but it says 4-7 PSI on the side. Is that variability common?

One thing I know I wanna do is put the bigger main venturis in them. I think they come with 35mms or 37 something like that. But you can get 40s and 42s I believe. More air is never a bad thing. I really like this idea of modular carbs where you can just play with it like legos and make it exactly how you want it

originally I was gonna drop a 360 in my Dart Sport. I have one that’s been sitting in the bed of my truck forever now. Out of a 72 something or other, was last used in an 87 RAM, but didn’t run very good. Even my dad who has been a mechanic for 30 years couldn’t figure out why. Tried other carbs when the brand new looking edlebrock 4bbl didn’t seem to work well even with tuning. Tried messing with timing. Just Never wanted to run right. At that point my dad was thinking maybe the valve timing was a touch off cause the guy he bought the truck from said that he had “rebuilt” the motor, but when a guy is selling a “rebuilt” motor that could mean literally anything. But eventually I ended up doing so much research and work on the slant six cause that’s what I have I just fell in love with it and I want to see what I can do with it. I’ll find something to do with the 360. Maybe an old dodge pickup, perhaps a 67 camper special like my dad had when I was little

Well I already know what the replies are gonna be for this post but here we go. On the drive between my apartment and my moms house to save my car from being towed, I could tell it’s firing late. I can hear fireballs popping out the exhaust manifold (the pipe isn’t hooked up to the manifold, so it’s very loud). But you literally can’t notice this fact unless you’re actually driving it and trying to get up to actual driving speeds, as opposed to cruising up and down the parking lot like I do. But there was another problem…
My dumbass didn’t realize the parking brake was on. My mom and brother followed me to their house the whole way and he told me “huh. Maybe that’s why there was smoke coming out the back.” Like breh. The exhaust ain’t hooked up so that would be helpful for you to have said that one of the three times we stopped on the way home, but okay. In my Defence, my truck is a Ford with a pedal for the parking brake. And on the pedals obviously down (in) is on, and up (out) is off. I’m used to that idea. Auch is not the case on the ole dart. Put is on and in is off. Noted. That’s probably part of the reason hated me for making it climb hills at two miles an hour in the bottom of first gear cause that’s literally all it would do in those scenarios. Which happened a lot of course. Just my luck. Stuck going uphill at like 2mph with cars piling up behind me. Nothing to see here, officer. Don’t ask me for an insurance card.

anyway. The car is now safely at my moms house to be stored for a couple days until I can get a hold of the apartment manager and tell her I fixed the oil leak so she hopefully wont have it towed anymore. My brother let me borrow his Mini Cooper so buying gas wont make me cry anymore ($350/mo average in my truck now). Now I have to buy more gas for the dart to get it home, cause it only had a quarter tank of mediocre at best gas in in when I started that hour long adventure for what’s normally a 15 or so minute trip to moms house.

anyway. I know. You told me so. I get it. I’ll get around to fixing it when I can get it back, but my moms going camping this weekend so I need to wait til she’s back so I can have a ride to pick up my car.

Leave the std chokes [ venturiis ] in the carb! Bigger is only better if the engine can use the airflow. Plus, bigger chokes reduce carb signal. It could hurt the low end & not improve top end.

I would have just made something up instead of admitting the parking brake was on :D

Could have two [ or more problems ].
Runs fine at idle but no longer creeps in gear? Maybe brakes are binding.

whoop there it was !

Dumb stuff happens- been there... always good to post the real answer. It's basically anonymous anyway...

Do you have a copy of Dutra's performance book? I would suggest you buy one before pouring money into the engine. A lot of those things you think you need to do are not needed.
