Got a chance to get mufflers in place. Little more finish welding then to hang them. List is getting smaller but a little more to go

wow you do great work. whos header kit did you get? I will be putting a 397 hemi in my 91 Dakota sport and I am going build a set of headers for it, which will be my first time. very glad my son knows how to tig weld.lol

Thank you. I just got a bunch of mandrel bends and merge collectors. You’ll have more room on the Dakota than a A body haha

If there is more room it sure don't look like much.lol thanks for the info about your headers

rotating assembly is in.. and intake is mostly dressed other than pcv valve. Going to call this engine “YouTube Special”

Brand new member here. This conversion is outstanding. I have a 69 custom I am about to start the same swap. Have been researching the steering side of the swap. I see you kept the factory box location. How tight is that? Have been toying with the idea of rack and pinion steering to give me more room for exhaust along with modifying current slanty k frame.

Can't answer for the Op on his thoughts and plans. But I can say that as far as I know every attempt to modify the original K-frame to add rack and pinion has been an utter failure. I certainly haven't seen everything, but that's what I remember.

If rack and pinion steering is a must, I would suggest you look at a full aftermarket suspension like @HemiDenny's kit or similar. The why's and options beyond the Op's thoughts are for a different thread though.

I have also thought about building a fixture that has all the mounting point positions minus motor mounts using the original k member and building a tubed k member that will give me plenty of room for all the components. Then i can properly mount a rack with the correct geometry. Is that a manual steering box in that car or is it power.

No need for a rack. If you go the rack and pinion get a k member etc.. everything is close very close but it fits.

Everything is back in and running! Long process for a swap but well worth it. Definitely not as easy as a mustang LS swap..

How do I upload videos?

Upload/host the video to YouTube. Then copy/paste the YouTube link into the post. FABO has an icon that looks like old-school film. Paste the media link within that.

I really want to hear this thing

Thanks guys. So I took it in the freeway for the first time it ran well but stayed at 195 for temp .. around the city this thing cools down very quickly. About 10 seconds from 190 to 185. 180 stat. fans go on at 190 and off at 185. Stays at 185 for a good bit.
On the freeway the fans are on but according to the Holley dash but it’s not cooling down.. I have a shroud on it. Should I make little pass throughs for air escape at high speed?? Or just turn the fan off completely on the freeway. I’ve heard it restricts airflow with high speed. Not that 195 is bad it’s actually normal but it cools down so good on the street it should be the same if not better on the freeway right?
