Absolutely true, they are advertised to not need a regulator, but they indeed need one. I bought 1st one for exactly this reason, it put out 8.2psi. The replacement, 8.5psi, and it's replacement 8psi. Tech at Edelbrock said that is just the way it is. I am running the third one with a regulator now. Other than this, it is a great pump that actually has 3/8 openings, not just the threaded portions.
