Remember a drive shaft brake is way more effective than at the wheels because you are "using" the axle ratio, AIA a 4:11 ratio and brake on the driveshaft will generate 4x the torque of braking at the wheels except you only have one brake, so I guess it would be 1 brake on the shaft generates double the braking force of the same brake, one on each rear wheel.
