Had to be modified to work with a Melling oil pump, this mod would probably need to be made for all oil pumps. Finally Gen 3 owners have a way to prime their new build before it goes in the car.

Under $60 as I recall.
EDIT: I should say this not only primes the oiling system but runs the oil pump so it can be tested!

I had spoken with Dave at MMX, he suggested getting the pressurized yard sprayers and injecting the oil into the engine from the side where the oil filter is, I believe there are two plugs.

the thing about this tool, there’s no crank pulley/ harmonic balancer, so how would it work for cars about to start up?

The problem with injecting oil into the fittings on the side of the oil filter boss is it doesn't actually spin the oil pump, and if you are building a new motor you want to know the oil pump is good before you put the motor in the car and fire it up.
In my particular case we discovered the brand new oil pump didn't work and we replaced it with one that did work and we were able to verify that and save ourselves hours of installing a motor then pulling it out again to change out the oil pump, as well as avoiding the thousands of dollars of damage that could have happened starting that motor with zero oil pressure.

Again, dave webber at mmx builds engines. Your engine is new and that’s a fair point but by the time you assemble your engine, it’s all drained back, so… how do you prime it then?

The engine was assembled when I spun the oil pump. I would think that once you prime it you should be okay. If the pickup tube is full of oil and the surfaces have a coating on them from being primed I think I'll be okay. I noticed I was turning that drill slower than a starter motor turns and it was getting good oil pressure and it happened immediately. If a person wants to take the extra step and prime it again with a pump up sprayer when it's back in the car I think that would be good insurance though.

Kudos to Summit Racing! I bought the oil pump from them a year ago and just tried it this week due to waiting on other parts for the build.
Their policy is no returns or exchanges after 6 months, but I called customer service and they are going to let me return it!

FYI. If you have a Mopar ECM you can hold the gas pedal all the way down turn the key to start and crank the engine over with no spark.

Agreed! I do like that the mopar stuff is coming out. I think maybe they played the LS market out and see an oil well in the hemi market now

How in the he'll does that work?!! How can the pump turn when it is engaged on the lower crank gear of the timing set?!!!! The lower timing gear is what drives the pump.

Aftermarket timing sets come with a separate cog that only drives the oil pump. The lower timing gear does not have the pump drive attached to it.
I forgot that the OEM ones are like what you described.
