Cuda Gills on a Dart?

-
A 750 HP 500 would tone it down some. lol
The gills and spoilers would be forgotten after it smoked your ***.
I can hear it now, what do you have in that thing. lol
What's under the cover is more important to me.

I get smoked by new Corvettes all the time. The fact that they're overpriced, overdesigned, and ugly means I don't feel bad at all. It takes a lot more work to make something fast and tasteful.

They look just as stupid as that one that had all the "R/T" emblems all over it.

I ❤️ Louvers

He likes his handy work so much that he's selling it.

Oh come on, you have no idea why it’s being sold. Owner could absolutely love the car but doesn’t have the finances to finish it.

I’m sure you’re aware that tearing a car down to the shell like that is a major financial and time commitment, a lot of people don’t realize how much work that is.

But sure, be a dick about it because the car doesn’t suit your tastes.

lmao, you enjoy attempting to dominate any post that doesn't agree with you. When opinions are solicited, you come on as the all-knowing poobah and first start with the condescending words and then the names. It's obvious that you have a passive aggressive nature with an over inflated ego that just cannot allow anyone the ability to express theirs. Speaking of dicks, how do they taste?

Blah blah blah blah

Or I can build my car the way I want it and tell the purists to kiss my ***. If you want your car boring and slow, you have at it.

It's all about the execution. On that Dart I think the gills COULD look good, but again they'd have to be scaled down so they fit onto the top of the fender between the lines like they do on a 'Cuda.

This is where it begins.

Touched a nerve huh?

And I didn't call you a dick, I said you were acting like one. And you are.

As far as letting people express their opinions, this whole thread was bashing some guys build (who isn't here to defend it) because he was expressing his. You're not special. Your opinion matters but his doesn't? Nah. You're just sore because you thought you'd get in some free shots on someone that isn't here to come back at you. Pathetic.

If, I valued your opinion I may be hurt but you are just an incorrigible bore. I laugh at your lone ranger come to the rescue silliness. You have a history of it through out FABO. :realcrazy:

Right, and you have a history of being one of those number matching purist collector types that come in and highbrow everyone that actually builds and enjoys driving their cars. You know, improves their performance so they can actually be driven? There is literally nothing more boring than a factory original car you have to trailer everywhere because it can't even outperform a modern Honda Civic.

And if you read the other posts in this thread, you will see I am not a "lone ranger" on this one or honestly most of the time. There are plenty of people here that want to DRIVE and enjoy their cars, and that means improving performance and sometimes means changing the 50+ year old "styling". Just because your tastes are stuck in a time long past doesn't mean everyone else's has to be too.

To be clear I didn’t post this to bash on anyone’s car. I posted because it was an interesting mod (to me). I was wondering how others felt about it. I added it was for sale just in case anyone was interested in it.

Oh I know, it is an interesting car and I'm sure there might be people here interested in it. And people can not like the mods the owner made, that's fine. Heck I don't like some of them, at least not they way that they were done.

But it always goes the same way. Some people like it, some people make some constructive criticism, and then some folks jump in and start indiscriminately bashing it, then others have to pile on and say even more ridiculous crap to get noticed. The purists on this site always do the same thing, even though they're probably the least talented people here from a mechanical stand point.

And it doesn't matter, those same folks are pissed either way. Buy a '74 and clone it to a '71? Well, you should have just bought a '71 they say. Never mind that the '74 was a 1/4 of the price and cloning it over was cheaper than the difference. But if you buy a '71 340 car and start modifying it, well, that's a crime against humanity and the SAME people that spewed hate about you cloning a '74 will spew even more hate about modifying an original car. The bottom line is, the purists are NEVER happy. Even if you restore everything to factory stock and do a fantastic job some other purist jerk off will find some tiny little detail to criticize. Because that's just what they do, they're insufferable.

If you forget about numbers, $$$$, purist this and that.....the real thrill of driving any car from decades ago, is the feel of what it was actually like back then. Some people never drove one back then and don't relate. Some want to experience that feel.
Trust me, I get the guys that want better brakes, steering, comfort, HP, etc. I have no issue with anyone doing what they to their car. Its theirs. Its a hunk of steel and rubber and plastic!
I figured what back in the 80s, one day people would be making "street rods" out of 60s Mopars and such. Call them customs, restomods, pro touring, whatever.
Everyone has a car! Not all have the same purpose!

Not really sure I agree with that (which is fine). I've driven these cars as they were "back then", and really it's not that impressive. Of course full disclosure, I did not drive them "back then" either, I'm talking about driving them today as they were then because I wasn't around when these cars were new. Especially if you go purist on it and run those seriously sketchy bias ply tires. All you get is a poor handling car that stops lousy. But driving them like that doesn't "take me back" either, it's just driving a poor handling, ill mannered car.

I'm more interested in maximizing their potential, and in driving them as much as I can. And quite frankly, you can't drive them all the time in modern day traffic and freeway scenarios safely if you leave them the way they were. But that doesn't ruin them to me, they still aren't new cars and don't feel like new cars, even if they've been upgraded to take advantage of more modern technology like brakes and suspension. Maybe they're not like they were from the factory, but they're nothing like a modern car from the factory either. And certainly you can't say my cars are upgraded much for comfort, if anything I've made mine less comfortable with exception of the seats maybe.

Eh, I don't like the look on the Dart but to each their own. Looks like he actually has put some serious work in to that car from what I can make from the pics.

As for me, I'll modify any car as long as it isn't some super rare car. Hell, I sold that '70 Duster I had because I couldn't bring myself to modify it since it was a true survivor car. However, my Barracuda, Dart, Charger, and Sport Fury I don't have one issue modifying anything I wish. If someone doesn't like what I've done, too bad, so sad!

Saw this on FB. Wondering what people think of this? ‘71 Cuda Fender Gills on a Dodge Dart.

I'd rather see the exhaust out the fenders such as in figure 1 if it must be up high, rather than non-functional gills. But that's just my preference, and my name isn't on the title.
The fender lines on the darts/demons provide a great opportunity to show off open headers exiting the fender down low (see figure 2), and the plumbing there in the fenderwell (see figure 5). The lower body line of the dart lends itself well to break the car and locate that exhaust. Figure 3 is a good example of an ugly execution because of the body lines.

Here you need these. Take as many as you want

Thank you. Have you ever been to a PCA event? Man, those assgoblins with the little 356 bathtubs are beyond compare. "You used the wrong tint of orange in your guard's red paint," or, "You got a nit in the chrome on your rear view mirror." and God forbid you remove the bumper guards or put the amber European turn signals on a US model which were supposed to be clear!

edit: And that better be lead, not bondo!

Riding down the road in a 283 '57 Chevy with bias tires may not be that fun... IF you were there back then, such triggers memories of sites, smells, history.
Driving these old cars to everyone, is not always about HP, torque, cornering, stopping, numers, who is the coolest, whose's the best... sometimes its just about tapping back into yester year... If you were there back then.

To me it is interesting to see someone modify such with the gills. Interesting to judge it like art, and see where an artist would maybe change it? or not. IF those gills let in some air they are functional to some extent..otherwise its art.
