TORQUE BOXES ?

-
what about the other reinforcements sold out there?, there are inner fender braces, and core support stiffness brace. Anyone has those on their vehicles?, do they make a difference?, is it worth for a daily driver?

I have the subrfame connectors already but will install the torque boxes for sure when the car goes to the paintshop, just wondering about the fender and core support parts.

Thats where we stashed our weed man.

hahahaha, thats funny. If you don't stash your weed there

Handling wise, do they actually make the car handle and drive better dor daily applications or stiffens it too much to be a daily driver?. Currently with the suspension mods, subframe connectors, etc the car handles great in the turns, even at high speed, but if it this will further improve it then I will do it.

Yes the do help handling a bit. It ties the outer rocker into the subframe.
I like the 1963 thru 66 ones better and with a little work and hammering they fit the 67 up too.

First picture is 63-66. they go all the way to the trans crossmember frame

This is 67 thru 75.

You’re not going to make the chassis “too stiff” for street use or daily use. Whether it’s worth it on not is up to you. Do you “need” additional stiffening for daily or street use? No. Will it improve handling and how the car feels? In my opinion, absolutely.

I have torque boxes, subframe connectors, a tubular lower radiator support and forward strut bars/J-bars on my Duster, I use it as a daily and it’s entirely street driven. Car feels much more solid and handling is more precise. But I have a lot of other stuff of my car, including 275/35/18 tires on the front and 295/40/18’s on the back with 1.12” torsion bars, front and rear sway bars, etc

thanks, this is good feedback. I've got the following on my setup:

1" torsion bars
QA A arms
Hotchkis strut bars
mopar sub frame connectors
Plate-Reinforced lower arms
Hotchkis street shocks by fox
Front and rear hotchkis anti sway bars
6 leaf "sport" stock rear springs
front and read disc brakes
225/17 NT05 nittos in front
255/17 NT05 nittos in the rear

Every little bit helps. About the only thing that would stiffen up the car more would to put a Cage in to tie all points together. Not needed for the street in most states.

Sounds like you’ve done a decent amount already and I’m sure your car handles great!

So XV did some chassis testing on B/E bodies awhile back. They concluded that the worst flex was actually from the firewall forward and at the lower radiator brace. Hence stuff like the lower radiator supports and inner fender stiffening that XV and USCT offer. I posted it in another torque box thread recently but here it is

excellent info, appreciate the response!

Those are OEM boxes and all 340 4 speed cars should have them (often one give away when suspecting a car that is claimed to be an original is not).

I haven't crawled under mine in a week. Did the 340/727's have them too? I know I have the gussets for the transmission mounts. Old age makes me forget if I have the torque boxes. Thanks to all, Paul.

As a general rule you never no what the factory might in, No to torque boxes on the 727 automatics, The Floor Hump for the shifter and "Z" bar mounting plate welded to inter body on driver side with also added to the manual cars (3 or 4 speed). A under body bracket for the duel exhaust was also added on the 340 cars (auto & 4 speed manual). Not sure if it was an option, but mine (4 speed) has a pinion snubber on the 8 3/4 chunk.

pinion snubbers on all 8 3/4 rears.

yes, no torque boxes on automatic 340 A bodies...

I can't imagine an order sheet with a torque box option since it's not a mere bolt on. As stated a brazillion times, some 340's came with 2 and some came with all 4. Both of my 'cuda 340's had/have all 4.
I was not on order form Factory 4 speed came with them . B Bodys Have them not sure if E Bodys do also

You could pickup the Torque Box plates from any Dealer parts department and weld them in. I bought both sets from Brewer Chrysler/Plymouth in Auburn WA and did them on a 1965 Dart GT that had a hot 318 with fenderwell headers. The headers required cutting out the front frame where the torque box covers so we had to add metal back in.

My 1965 Barracuda we also welded in 11 gauge plate and added frame connectors for the 383 Magnumn

No torque boxes on 340/727. It does have the tranny gussets and the brackets for the square chrome tips.
