I was looking at a pair of the Accurate Ltd. Schumacher ball joint flange pipes.

I'm installing the Tri-Ys into a car with elephant ears so the front of the engine is raised up and it seems like the ball joint would make it easier to get exhaust back on the car.

At 172.57 (where do they come up with these numbers?) the price seems crazy for what it is, but I know you have to pay to play and they're apparently quality parts so I'm willing to pay their price.

So I pop a set into my shopping cart, and hit the button for a shipping estimate and it comes back at 40.54 for FedEx ground shipping. I'm going to stand on principal and say hell no to that. I know companies are in business to make money, but I guess the mark up on the part isn't enough so they turned shipping into a profit center too.

Anyway my question is, are there any reasonable dealer for their parts, or is direct the only way to go? I didn't find any on google. If no, can I get something like this made up at a competent exhaust shop (if I can find one here)?

Shipping is way up now...due to cost of fuel and everything else...I would say a shop could make these..but probably still charge you a bundle...and parts will not be totally right..accurate is proud of their products and all you hear is satisfied customers...that's why they can charge whatever they choose...checkout the price for full exhaust systems....ouch..

Yeah, two headtubes to attach to those down tubes is $600. It's insane.

ETA: shipping on the headtubes is $187.54. BS.

I'm not really complaining about the price of the part, it's the shipping, and it will be nuts for those the same as it is for the ones with sockets.

Believe it or not, shipping on those is actually more - $43.34 vs 40.54.

You could stuff those in a USPS priority mail box for $10-20. They probably get a discount from FedEx to further boost the profit potential.

In the end I'll probably dig deep and pay up for them, but that doesn't make me any happier to be taken advantage of.

I bought an accurate exhaust a few years back, 800 bucks, add to that a set of 340 manifolds 500 so $1300 for an exhaust system. But, it fits real good and is as close to stock as I can get which is what I was after with my car. Oh and it included the chrome tips also. I do recall shipping was a big part of that, its a large box. It was pre recession though or inflation or whatever they are calling it now.

FWIW UPS shipping on the headers (from a member here) was only $44.73. I have a hard time reconciling that those two 12" long pipes cost the same to ship as a pair of headers.

Which part (excatly) do you need? The ball flange for the down pipe or the ball part for the header/exhaust manifold?

Just fired my engine with new Accurate exhaust. It fit well and sounds great. Hearing that seemed to diminish the pain of the cost.

You'll already have flanges and gaskets for collectors......

Yeah, you're right, I hadn't thought of that for some reason. I imagined needing to make something similar to one of the two sold by Accurate. They weld the pipe to the flange. It's been a long time since I've fought this sort of battle.

I would need both I think. Now that my eyes have been opened by Daves69 I think I'll be able to rig something up that's good enough to get me to a muffler shop to get the headers tied into the existing exhaust.

Ok, good. I know that I've made the ball flange for the down pipe many times so if you want to know how to make one I can tell you how and it won't cost more than $25.

I agree. I got the factory style mufflers and it has its own unique sound. Old timers have told me that they used to be able to tell what kind of car it was byu the sound back in the day.
