What type of finish is appropriate for the interior trim? My interior was all covered in grey Terry cloth **** when I got my car. I’m redoing the whole interior. I’m down to trim and seats. My A pillar covers are shiny black. Should I paint the rest shiny black too? I only want to do it once. This time at least! What do you all think? Thanks!

I used satin on all of mine interior metal. I believe the factory finish was what the called “suede”

Here’s an interior shot of mine, soon after I redid the dash.

Check out SEM Trim Black. It sprays great out of the can and dries rock hard. It's got a great matte sheen to it as well.

From the factory, my 72 duster had a matte finish on the dash and steering column. The other metal pieces were shiny body color ( honeydew melon?) . I changed the interior color to black with gloss bc/cc black on the metal pieces, SEM Trim Black on the dash and column and SEM Landau Black on the plastic and vinyl.

Looks like you’re doing what I’m doing. My interior was nasty. I went stock everything except I opted for the Demon style seats rather than the Swinger seats. I like the Demon seats a lot! My A pillars are shiny, but the matte finish in the headliner and rear window trim seems like the way to go. Thanks guys!

I just had to put together a replacement column from the original one and a donor column for my 85 D150.
I painted it before it went in, as it had the typical "arc" worn bare from past owners apparently having a big key ring hanging while the one that the truck takes was in the ignition, doing it's job.
I had a can of Rust-Oleum satin black here so that's what I used. It's still slightly too shiney. They used dull drab sheen for interiors to eliminate glare and sun spots which can be quite distracting while driving.

Suede on dash for sure! I just got mine back from powdercoater.
I can't remember whether I painted ds airbox with SEM or Marhyde. I'll chk tomorrow. 12 yr old 3/4 empty can and it sprayed good, looks great.

Get the SEM brand adhesion promoter and their line of paint as well. It is the brand that professional restoration shops use. They have several lines but I like their "Color Coat". Sprays great and has a great look and feel when dry.
