Hey guys. So 10 years ago I bought a 1972 Plymouth Valiant Scamp and unfortunately my project never went anywhere because there was always something more pressing to do. Well, I’m back and have a new 1971 Plymouth Valiant Scamp that I will be messing with and this one will not be on the back burner like my old Scamp was. Just reintroducing myself and my new to me car.

!!!NICE!!! I had to look up your location. Spent 4 years at NAS Miramar, N of San Diego, 70-74

As a fellow Scamp owner, I'm excited to see what you do with it

Thanks guys, glad to have a driving Mopar again. I do have a 99 percent complete 4 speed that I will be putting in once everything is cleaned up. She looks good in pictures but is far from perfect, not that I want it to be because I love driving it. I need to buy some new front tires and fix a oil leak and fix a fuel leak. It is mini tubbed and has a 8-3/4 rear end with some 295’s in the back. The guy I bought it from didn’t know much about the car. I did get a paper trail with it and it was sold from Portland Alexander in March of 1971 and made its way to California around 2007. I do have some period correct mint California blue plates I will be assigning to it to give it a cleaner look. Here are a few more pictures of it. It does have the incorrect year fender on the passenger side (1972), so I will need to correct that.

Yucaipa huh? That’s about 30 mins from me. Welcome back. That’s a beautiful little Scamp! I never really like gold cars but that one stands out to me.

Very nice lookin car. What could it possibly need?

It has odds and ends that need attention. The paint isn’t perfect, the passenger side seems to have taken some damage at one time. The passenger side fender is from a 72. The clear coat is starting to peel so a repaint is in its future. The 318 will be replaced by a 408 eventually and I have almost all the parts to convert it to a 4speed. The interior is original and there is a tear in the driver seat that will require attention. I have some TTI headers that I will be installing along with some louder exhaust, it’s relatively quiet right now. The front tires need replacement. The car is lowered, and the rear bottoms out when hitting bumps so some snubbers or clearancing needs to happen back there. The previous owner replaced the fuel tank and there is a leak when the tank is full at the filler neck. Right now it leaks quite a bit of oil from the pan, so I will have to address this. The other day it vapor locked on my, it gets hot out here in SoCal, so I need to address this. I will be performing a full tune up and investigate what gear ratio I have in the back. It’s definitely a suregrip (ask me how I know) but I do not know what gears are in it. Sounds like a lot but not bad a 50 year old car.
