this welder any good?

You sure saved him
I made that mistake once---on a rooftop AC I was replacing the compressor. This was in a TERRIBLE place, a particle board plant, where they basically glue sawdust together. The plant was under a giant pretty much open air metal shed, HUGE, with little "buildings" inside for various purposes. This was the test lab where they checked the glue, etc. On top was a flat "roof" just plywood, WITH ABOUT A FOOT OF SAWDUST accumulated. You had to push it out of your way, and have an employee as a "fire watch" if you even thought about lighting a torch

This was when I had very little HVAC experience. It was hot, dusty, dirty, awful place, and the compressor had little room above it to read the tag welded to the can. I showed up with the single phase replacement and realized it was 3 phase, and had to "unbraze" the thing and pull it back out.
