Brilliance or Blasphemy?

Let me find the box for mine. It was stupid expensive, but it has all the modern conveniences. I have JBL Concert Speakers in the back and Fosgate 5 1/2’s in the doors. No power amp. It is more than loud enough. People always freak when they see Nav in a 72 Dart! This is the stereo I got. The reviews are awesome

Interesting! So the screen is completely modular and could be mounted most anywhere, so you wouldn't even have to cut the dash if someone didn't want to. Just mount the main box someplace close and use the mounts in the ash tray location and run the wire to the box. Very cool!

Exactly, now the screen is about 1 inch thick but hey, nothing's free in life! But it wouldn't be hard to fab up a bezel to cover the sides

That one is the big boy, I went with the 6.8" screen

I think it looks great! but then again if you haven't seen what I'm putting in my car, you don't know what kind of crazy **** I'm cooking up as well:

Regarding radio choices, I went with the Pioneer DMH-WC5700NEX, because you get a remote mounted screen...a super handy option if you're looking to get crazy with the install and don't have a lot of depth to play with

I've been watching your thread on this. Didn't realize you were using a similar radio with a remote screen. Makes sense now that I think about it, just hadn't clicked before.

Or rig up a quick disconnect for the mount that allows you to close or reinstall the ash tray....<<hint, hint>>

Yeah, I don’t have a remote screen, but I like the look of what I’ve got. I have a center console with the silver top plate that I’m putting in too! I’d be interested to see where you put a remote screen

What you see in my video is the remote screen itself, the head unit will be up under the dash somewhere or perhaps the glove box. Have you thought about a remote control for the Pioneer? I'm planning on going with their marine remote control, which is a wired unit that plugs in...and putting that in a custom center console. They don't directly say the marine remote works with their car radios, but it's a 1/8" plug which the car radios have for the steering wheel controls option.

In the end my radio screen is going to end up either in the dash where the heater controls are (If there's room for my contraption) or in the center console. I'm doing a custom console regardless, so it's just a matter of what all I need to put into it vs the dash since I'm adding AC as well.

Carry a map in the glove box. Most everyone that I know has said that their GPS always takes them the long way around to their destination. I didn't have the onstar activated on my 2019 Colorado z71.
I've had GPS put the screws to me MORE than Once!!!!!!

Just another way for the government to track you. I don't do Facebook,Twitter, same thing with a gps speedo

If you've got a phone, it doesn't matter if you do the other things. Not that I disagree with you, just saying.

I dislike GPS speedometers for multiple reasons, not just for the possibility that someone could track me because of it.

I wish I could find a 1.25/1.5 DIN height unit to fit in a factory cassette pod.

In my falcon I use a generic 7” monitor with a CAN interface from gaugeart.com and an audio output to an amp. Plug my phone in to the monitor and I have all my GPS, music, streaming radio stations, and my gauges right in front of me.

I have a remote with mine. Also have factory AC, so I couldn’t do what you are doing. AC controls are right there. That’s why I went with this unit. Pretty tricky with the screen there!

Does the screen interfere with the output from from your AC vents in any way?

Thanks, well like I said your install looks great, I'm all for modern convenience in our classics

No. The screen is in the perfect spot. It doesn’t interfere with the AC controls, and isn’t hanging down in front of the vents. It’s a nice setup if I do say so myself!

I use a map
What part of Missouri you in there Dan? You might not need a map if you’re in a place you’re real familiar with. I lived in Springfield Il when you could drive 5 miles from the center of town and be lost in cornfields, lol! I’m new here and north to me is east in real life here

I'm not going to lie, even living in the same place for years I find we use NAV more often than you would think. Usually it isn't "how to get somewhere", but "which is the shortest route" or "arrival time" kind of situations.

I swapped an 8.4 screen into my Challenger and got lucky with the JY one I bought and it had NAV activated on it. Didn't care at first, but before I sold it I was really liking having it.

Just some thoughts.

I can understand why you like the gps. I didn't mean to sound disrespectful it's just that I get tired of people thinking that they can't do anything without technology and that's not true. I live 50 miles west of st.louis

The last time I was with someone using gps it took us 45 minutes out of our way, I've heard that alot about gps. I don't think that it's all what it's made out to be. I didn't activate the on star in my Colorado z71 either

You’re good! I had an ex who’s dad had a lot of Lake of the Ozarks across from the marina in Roach. I’m kinda familiar with the area. Haven’t been there in a long time. Driving in Cali is so different. You honestly have to take the freeways to get anywhere. I grew up in Chicago and only used freeways to go camping, lol! Lived in Springfield and there was only the 55. I’m sure it’s all grown by now, but still, never used anything but surface streets. Here you can’t drive a mile without seeing freeway on-ramps. It’s crazy

Long as you like it, you don't need anybody's approval.

That’s pretty awesome, got any pics of it lit up? I was gonna go digital, but I ordered a cluster with a panel and bezel. Finding a bezel is surprisingly difficult! Where in So Cal are ya?

You completely missed an opportunity to drive around with VR goggles on.
Tech add-on fail.
