That style was formed by essentially coiling a wire and beating it into a barrel. Uncommon but very cool when you can find them.
I say cut down musket because of the curve of the butt is more like a stock neck on a musket than the curve that would be on a pistol of that era. Percussion cap system show up around 1820(ish) and generally fade away in general use in favor of metal cased center fire systems by 1870 or so. I was trying to see if the lockplate indicated a modified flint system but it doesn't look like it does although the pins on the forward part of the plate and at the base of the **** may mean something. Smarter dudes than me wander here :popcorn:
That image you posted of the cap nipple looks like something modified as well... Hmmmmm....
