Hellooooo FABO,
I finally got the 383 fired again after having a setback with getting the sniper stealth figured out. I initially had it fired and only ran it for 5-10 min. This engine came with the car and I was told it ran and had been warmed over. the cam card that came with it was a summit shelf grind 250/250@50 with a 112 ish centerline I cant remember. Pretty lopey deal. Its what I got so Im just gonna run it. I used break in oil with the high zinc just cause. So anyway, I got it started today with my buddys help and noticed that #3 and #5 were a lot hotter than the rest. Most the cylinders were around 450-500, but 3/5 were hitting 7-800 ish (cheap lazer temp) The coolant was just filled so.... air pocket? Also I have the drivers side up an inch on the motor mount to clear steering gear from header. It was getting late so Ill have another go on Monday. Ill drop the rear of the car so the rad is the high point, but Im listening if you have other suggestion as to what it could be. Oh.....electric fan....no....probably not enough cfm, but since I have had the chance to go down the road, Im not set on baggin that yet.

Thanks FABO!! Sorry for the novel.

At what rpm was this test performed? Was the engine idling? Egt's at idle will be all over the place, especially with a rich running carb. Get some speed into the test at a steady state. All i see is an over rich carb at idle. Egt's below average 1162.

The car was idling with a couple of bumps for grins. sniper stealth EFI. So, new guy here, exhaust temp is 1162? I was using the lazer style temp gun a couple inches down from spark plug where I envisioned a cylinder to be. The drinkers side was 250-300, but #3/5 were 6-700. Im not too excited about it as the thing needs shaking down, I just got it started. I have been led to believe this is a 9.5:1 compression.....but I really dont know. engine came with the car in boxes, Im just putting it together.
