Stop in for a cup of coffee

See that right there is where we differ, I buy a bunch of stuff I don’t need then never return it thinking I will use it some day! And my number one move is to put “it” somewhere special so that I don’t lose it. Then when I tear the shop apart trying to find it, to no avail. I then go buy another one. And presto change I find it! It is my best magic trick ever!
When I was racing I did that a lot. Been selling extras off for a while now.

So the search engine on this site is weak. Anyone know how to squeeze more power out of a 273.

I have a recently acquired 69 273 2bbl. In a 69 valiant.

I'm assuming it's like a 318.... cam, carb, and headers
You have a few things against you from the start. Low compression and a mild hydraulic cam for starters.

Getting there

Somebody has monkey'd with this carb in the past...

Heater done. Stuff back on wall. Also got the new dimmer switch in. Went and got more shellac for the cabinet shelves. But it’s raining now and humidity is sky high. Will wait till tomorrow to do another coat on them. Mostly just some base trim left to do and change out the crapper.

Reviewing my choices of what was on hand for the job, decided on Hammerite applied with a brush.

Some of the brush marks will soften as it cures, but at least its well protected.

Made a bunch of measurements and drew them out yesterday. Today came up with a better way to check the alignment.

That's what I thought, dipstick is hitting the baffle.

That's better.

How much tire have you got on the back of the '66? I was just lookin' at a '66 wagon and they have huge rear fenderwells :D View attachment 1715963519
Who do we know that has a early wagon? I would imagine the sedans and the wagons are different. They aren't too wide though. And if you get a tire that's too tall they may rub at the front unlss you move the rear end back a smidge.

Just thinkin' I've got 4 15" Moon Discs lookin' for a hot rod and a Dart Wagon might be just the place for them

My granbrats in Phx are really pulling for a wagon of some sort :lol:

Here is a short video of my boys rat rod. Quick putt around the house this AM. Much to do, but landmark weekend!

100% from scratch by us. 460/C6/9" with 3.55. Needs more work but just time at this point.

Looks good.sounded good. It should run like a scalded dog once you get it to stop. :poke::rofl: You need a windshield though.

I know what is needed brakes wise, as for windshield, door top roof pieces, custom visor, brake lights, etc. Got it all. Just need time. I promised he would drive it before going back to school. Promise met. Now pick away at the rest. Loving it though

What makes you say that?

The gaskets inside were all blue ones which I understand are not the original (??)

Power valve and a couple other places had double gaskets.

The screws on the secondary metering body were barely finger tight

The secondary metering body plate is missing completely....

Just seems like something went on.

So if the secondary diaphragm looked to be messed up...perhaps not allowing the secondaries to kick in...would that explain how fouled up those butterflies were and why the back half of the intake had so much more buildup compared to the front?

It's all back together....starts and runs well. Not driving until I get through the transmission stuff but it definitely sounds much better.

Getting a timing light on it in the AM

Do you have a build thread somewhere, I must have missed it the details of this valiant. I see a slant so my attention just zoomed in.

No build thread. Started out as a disc brake upgrade and kinda snowballed... The thread I have on Brakes for your classic MOPAR has most of the saga in there. :D
