What safe protectant to use on dash pads....

-
I used to like the old standby Armor All until I used too much on my old Challenger. It turned the plastic chalky. Subscribed here for new ideas too.

In the attic of a heated garage for years and now in the bedroom of the house. I sold some to members they can confirm how soft they were. Like the day they were made. I had one that was cracked in the front corners as usual. They split there and pull apart. The split went back together and was not noticable.
I installed one in this car. These interior parts seats and panels were all rubbed down with Vaseline years ago and they are all soft without a crack. I have 6 seats left and a bunch of panels I saved for years for 71 Demons and Dusters

I met Steve and his son both great and intelligent and both do remarkable work.

I have several I stored years ago. I coated them with vaseline and rubbed it in for storage. They are all soft and in very good condition. Vinyl is petroleum based so is vaseline.

Hmmmm. Never thought of that. That has potential. Have you ever used it on a dash pad in a car that is outside a bit?

any other good parts on that car?

Some but not many, mostly interior stuff, and it’s a 4-door.

Another vote for 303, I briefly worked as a spa tech at a hot tub store (summer job, friends' parents own the place) and they used that exclusively on all the vinyl hot tub covers. Protects against sun damage very well which is important in CO, sunlight is quite a bit harsher here due to higher elevation (physically closer to sun) and thinner atmosphere (less gases to absorb light rays).

This is all I ever use on vinyl anymore. It works very well.

303 protectant is a very good product, non silicone so won't vaporize and fog up your screen. Don't know about US aviation regs, but in Australia this is the only product of this type you can use! Best thing is it gives only semi gloss finish unlike the silicone types with their high gloss finish!
