72 dart swinger frame rail crossmember extensions

I dont recall my 72 Dart having them or showing any evidence of them being there. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be there but I didnt put them on mine.

Are they necessary? I'll have to check my nephews '72 and see what he's got.
