Considering relocating to Texas

It sounds like you already made up your mind, I just wanted to inject some personal experience.

I was just in Austin last week for my brother in laws wedding. His bride is Muslim. We ate Saudi food, and the men danced traditional Saudi dance. But even the Muslim dudes were in Cowboy hats and lined danced to Garth Brooks.

Texas is for Texans, if you don’t assimilate, you won’t feel like you fit in. Same goes for anywhere though I guess. I’m from So Cal, I ain’t wearing no cowboy hat, and Luke Bryan is not real music.

I wish you luck with your decision and safe travels if you do move there. Get ready for some of the best food you’ll ever eat!

I mean that does sound pretty cringe-worthy but not much worse or better than the bicycle-riding, craft beer-drinking, rock-climbing, Subaru-driving, Phish-listening subculture that's prevalent here. When I did field work in Wichita Falls, TX I actually bought a cheap cowboy hat from a gas station because my head and neck were getting annihilated from the sun lol so I have no problem wearing one for practical reasons. Tbh I kinda like the way they look. I did grow up watching a lot of Westerns with my maternal grandpa...

Oh and good to hear about the food, here it's generally bland and lacks flavor. I haven't had decent pizza or Italian food since the last time I visited my mom's family near the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border. Not that I'd expect Texas to have killer Italian food but traditional ethnic food just generally sucks in Colorado. Even the "Texas BBQ" places here are a joke, I can smoke brisket myself that has way more flavor and I'm a rookie at it.
