A kind person here sold me a pair of brackets for the transmission to engine support. I knew there were long ones and short ones so I took a guess because I didn’t know and I didn’t have the engine block here to know what it was but with a 50-50 chance I’m guaranteed to get the wrong one. Apparently I need a long one I think I got a short one anybody have the one behind the starter it’s about a half inch longer than this one?

PM sent. What year is your block? The changed that distance about an inch in the mid 70's for the longer starter that they started using. I have the exact years written down somewhere.

I have the brace and a pulley from a 67-69 AC car. It is 2 3/4 deep and 5 3/4 in diameter. I have never dealt with pre 67 cars so my knowledge is nil. If the bottom crank pulley had different diameters, this pulley might not work. Now that you have the compressor mounted-measure the maximum diameter that you can use.

I’ll bet that pulley work, maybe! I’ll take it all how much shipping to 85637

is there a second blind hole in your block where the brace ends? I recently installed a new small block in my Dart and it had a threaded hole where yours is and another hole with no threads side by side in that engine pad. I used a tap and threaded the hole and was good to go. The brace is nowhere near my mini starter!

Yeah there's certainly room enough for a hole in the right place!

Chrysler started using a longer starter on 360's in 1976. So that is when the brace got longer, because the moved the boss forward about 1 inch.

there is a pad where a hole could be but it is not drilled

you could drill one right through the brace hole and tap it, but you need a collar on the drill bit to keep from going too deep. you can run the bolt into the existing hole to find the correct depth and then back off from that a bit and use a shorter bolt. You don't need to thread it very deep because all the stress is to sheer across the bolt, not trying to pull the bolt out of the hole... I'd still use thread sealer on the bolt because the water jacket is there somewhere.

Drill into a done engine.....yeah, what could go wrong here....? Just get the longer bracket and be done with it.
