I'm losing the power steering on my 70 Dart with a 360 Magnum. Going to. 16:1 performance manual steering box for two reasons, the box is way too close to the headers (high heat), and I'm I'm interested in road course racing.

By losing the ps pump, The switch over will provide enough clearance for a second alternator on the left side of the engine.

Purpose?? Redundancy, one alt goes out, still have another one. Also when I'm doing a little street racing, I'll need additional amps to drive
The amps up to be sure I have more than enough amps, to drive the electronics used in race mode vs cruise mode

Question ? How would I wire the alt's ??
2 alternators, 2 voltage regulators, main charge wires wires 2 into one, or separate regulators and both charge wires to the battery ? Would an adjustable voltage regulator on the standby alt
Be applicable here ?

I see this as a total waste of time since you can get a high amp alternator and as long as it is a quality unit, I see no reason why it would suddenly die on you.

If you said “Ignition System” for the reason above, in case it dies out, I’d be on board.

If this is your issue, run magneto's and spare the charging current for everything else.

That said, if this is your issue, you have another issue that you need to diagnose and fix. There's no reason for dual alt's on a race car. You're not running that much crap when you're racing. The onboard computer shouldn't be drawing that much power, or you shouldn't be watching Youtube and gaming while racing. Unless you're racing the car you also compete in stereo competitions with.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should"

Using that logic, why stop with just 2 alternators?

How many times have you had an alternator go out? If you're that worried about it, carry a spare in the trunk. At least then, the added weight will be where you want it.
